So a quiet week this week, not much completed at all on the tank as I am waiting for all of the plumbing, pipes, fittings etc which I had to order from 4 different suppliers. So everything is coming at different times and am still waiting on a lot to even be in stock. Seems 63mm stuff is not so common in Europe. However I did receive two US Solid electric ball valves and various fittings so i can start getting the ATO lines run. And also received and F7 floating Mighty Magnet. And since i was there i decided to buy spare algae cutter bags, dozer pad and there scratch removal set and polish kit for the outside. Also got some good and bad news, my A400 should be turning up this week but the tank is not going to ship until the 13th, as with all of the shenanigans going on in the world at the moment the volume of traffic to this region has reduced dramatically. So probably wont see the tanks until the end of September which is annoying but also lets me cruise along and get all the other things done that still need to be done. Boring post but it is what it is, and the gathering of all of the stuff is taking much longer than expected. have a great week

Sweet - that's some monster return pumps!!! I have 2 x Abyzz A200 and absolutely love them, hoping to never have to touch them for years. It took me several weeks trying to convert metric -> imperial pipes & fittings though.

Its absolutely hilarious here with metric and imperial. For instance my plumbing is generally 63mm but my bulkheads are 63mm on one side and the thread for the fixing nut is a 2 1/2 inch thread. And then last week received my 10 63mm elbow 5 of them for the bean animal came solvent one side and BSP threaded on the other. So silly mistake but no point returning them to Spain. I will have a lot of hidey holes for my quarantine tank.
Side note. AI screwed me to a degree as I am going to try the Triton method I need a 10x turnover of the display so 2 different AI clients said i needed 63mm piping. As it was i could of got away with 40mm. Not a big problem just the 63mm stuff is all huge. So I certainly wont have any problems with restriction. 🤪

I hear you! These schedule-80 unions, bulkheads, and gate valves are super expensive. I paid $102 for one 1.5" Spears gate valve! I wanted to go all colored PVCs but backed off on that idea and did a Home Depot run for 1" and 1.5" pipes. I can't imagine how much you paid for all yours...likely $1500 in plumbing alone?

Honestly it has gotten a little out of hand as i originally bought 8 40mm bulkheads as well. But yes it has gotten very expensive. I will post a photo of all of the plumbing laid out on a table if it fits. But to give you an idea, 5x8ft lengths of 63mm pipe alone cost 125 USD. But like a lot of the things on this build I am too scared to really look at what it all cost. But I knew that going in so not going to complain. And at least i will only have one display tank, and around a 44 gallon quarantine tank for a while. Unlike you with your lovely close to public aquarium. 🤣🤣🤣

Amazing tank! You’ll love the peninsula tank! I’ll never own anything but them now! And kudos to your builder! It looks like they used the correct size acrylic on that build which is rare any more! I see so many under built acrylic tanks it’s sickening lol..

Yes they are using 30mm for display although did them to get to make the overflow wall 20mm so i can at least get the flow pumps on to it without having to buy extra magnets. The sump is made from 20mm and i had to argue with the builder to reduce the width of the top bracing past the skimmer or i would of had problems. So i was thinking if i ever had a home invasion I will be behind the tank as it is nearly a bullet proof wall. 🤣🤣 Everything with the build has been really smooth and enjoyable. The wait is the hardest as it was originally meant to be here around the start of August, but with all the shenanigans around the world, shipping has slowed to this part of the world, so now mid september. Thanks for the kind words. And yes i know what you mean, a local builder as in Europe local quoted 3 times as much and was using 15mm acrylic.

For scale. 1 inch, 25mm vs 2 1/2, 63mm valve, 25mm 40mm 63mm in second photo.
Ooh nice! Let me take this back — your plumbing parts alone cost more than many reefers’ whole setup! I forgot you went with 2 1/2” — nice!

Btw: I hope you got some good algae scrapers? My frag tank is a 1” acrylics and it’s a pita to clean. It’s only 12” tall so I’m worried about your monster tank.

Looks awesome, can’t wait to see it progress. I am thinking about upgrading to a 200-gallon acrylic and am interested to hear how you like yours.

I am all good, although I am now missing a kidney, thankfully I wont be having any more kids or I am sure I would of had to of promised it to get this beast. Shipping alone was 105usd. So all up 738usd. plus tax and customs on my end😱😱 But they are apparently the best. so we shall see.

We shall see in a few months, still have to crane it through a first floor window. But if the planning and execution was anything to go bye, I think it will be all good bar any accidents or getting sunk by and errand missile. 🤣

G,day bakbay,
Thanks for checking, unfortunately not as yet, but not the end of the world. Apparently it is due to arrive on the 21st of August, but have no idea whether that is to the port or to my place. So really have not had not much to post as of late. And as they say idle hands are the devils friend, as you I get bored very quickly and easily, so whilst i have been waiting for the tank, I decided to order all the goodies for a killer sim racing setup. Should arrive from different suppliers all next week. However its more of a gift to my son who turns 15 on the 13th of August. That said most of what I get these days I share with my son so the sim rig will be the same. Also was having my driveway redone over the last 4 weeks so its been busy around here.

Very cool - it’s almost like waiting for Xmas, seems like an eternity, doesn’t it? Indeed - I get bored easily as well and that boredom tends to cost me money. I need to pick a less expensive hobby to curb boredom - perhaps I should take up more sleep? That’s a hobby, too. lol

Happy Birthday to your son! I’m sure he’ll really appreciate it. You’re a cool dad! Speaking of cool, I like your silver rocket ship on the new driveway! It’s a little more “civilized” (and less attention) than the other green rocket ship? ;)

Thanks, the car also benefited from my boredom, as during Covid I imported from the US a Renntech Stage 3 kit for it. So with the 100 octane fuel we get here it is running around 800hp, so it certainly is a rocket ship. 🚀

So back to the aquarium side of things, now that i have a rough estimate of when it will arrive sometime from August 21 onwards. So it was time to set up a quarantine tank and start buying some other things. So i got a great deal on a Waterbox Mini Pennisula 25 so around 95litres or 25 Gallons. Ditching the stock pump and will use it to mix water and went with a Aqua Medic DC Runner 1.3 and for extra in tank flow a tunze 6040 nanostream hub edition. Basic Eheim 100w heater and eheim air pump for if i have to medicate a bit stronger. So with any luck i should at least be able to get that tank wet cycled and some fish quarantined and ready to go into the main display when it is ready. As you can imagine with a son who has ADHD he has really lost interest at the moment as all he sees is more and more equipment and no tank and no fish. So at least if we are quarantining some fish its something to look at. So before i have even started the main display i am already thinking that the Quarantine tank will make a nice Nano after we fill the display which i am imagining at a minimum will be at least a year if all goes well. As you can imagine this is an expensive enough hobby as it is, but being land locked here in Switzerland getting fish and coral is off the richter expensive. And you cant import from the rest of Europe. I see a few trips to Germany to pick up some more of the expensive fish. As they can be up to 60 to 70% less. Which will justify the trip

So more tank related spending today. Had an appointment today with a solar storage company and commissioned them to install 3 phase 20KWH of battery storage. Enough to run the whole house for around 9 hours. Although more to be able to use the stored energy from the 10.8kw solar array overnight. As in most places the government dont want you to make too much money. As of the 1st of April my buyback for excess energy was standardized across Switzerland and went from 16 cents per kwh to 4 cents. So it became a no brainer to install a battery system. As the day rate is 35 and the night rate 25. I would love to be able to buy something for 4 and sell it for 35 without any effort and is controlled by the government, but thats life. Sorry for the rant. And the bonus is I have complete peace of mind about the tank being powered on, although the averay outage her is 15 to 30 minutes a year. So not much of risk but nice to have than not.
