Sand and rock are in. I cant see the aquascape because of the sand not being settled but im hoping itll look awesome and wont have to move it at all [emoji6] .
So i tempered down my return quite a bit to quiet down to drain noise and it has helped immensely but i am worried about extra stress on the pump with the valve being closed off so much plus am i asking for trouble with a ballvalve that closed off?

All cleared up and cycling away. Added smart start complete this morning along with a pinch if flakes however i cant test for anything yet im waiting on test kits to arrive hopefully friday. Should i run my skimmer during the cycle or no? Thoughts on the scape?

Also believe i have a design flaw in my sump. I am getting some stagnant water in my return section in the right. Any thoughts on how to remedy that?

Am I seeing correctly what looks like both baffles on the right are of the same height?
Bailing water from your return chamber will not help, it's just going to fill up again.
Definitely a design flaw.
Here is a common sump design, return on the left. 2x 8" baffles, 1x 10" baffle, 1x 7" baffle. The 8" baffles determine water depth.

Looks like he only has two baffles but the second one is off the ground
He just needs to lower his water level in the return section he's running the water way to high

Yea the second baffle is up a but it was my attempt at adding a bubble trap before the return. I originally was going with a 3 chamber sump but it didnt work out that way.

Did my first water test last night currently on day 7. Ammonia read 0, ph was 8.2, and nitrate was at 5. Did not test phosphates or nitrites probably do those tonight. If all stays well i will probably try for a fish this weekend. Also will be ordering a light within the next few days going to go with the viparspectra black box with the built in timers.

Put my light up over the weekend. Went with the Viparspectra black box with the built in timers. I have since raised the light a little to try and spread it out and reduce the spot light in the middle (although it is not nearly as bad in person compared to the picture). The light was easy to setup with times and intensity levels, now i just need some livestock.

Just started a new 40 breeder after my last one had a kalk crash. I'm using one of the new Jabeo 6500 sine wave DC pumps. You can't even hear it running and it's right at $100. I liked it so much I bought a second one for the skimmer. Right now I'm running AI Prime HD's but I want to add an ATI Sunpower when I get the money.

After u de rimmed it did u add Euro braces to it. I would love a 40b rimless.

^that wasnt a de-rimmed 40 looks like that was bought that way fyi.

So did a water test last night most things are looking in order SG 1.023,PH 8.4, Nirtrate 2-5 (deciphering the pink makes me feel color blind), kh 5 (low not sure of a cause for that) temp 80. I picked up an API phosphate kit but havent used it yet i know that they are there because i have diatoms an some green sh*& sprouting up. I have since quit testing for ammonia and nitrites.

Heres the tank as it sits almost 3 months. I picked up the hammer over the weekend along with a clown and a yellow wrasse who puttered around a little before diving into the sand and i have yet to see him again. Hopefully it will make an appearance soon. Anybody know how long they can stay under before i should get worried?

Looking like your going to have to spend some money to get a rimless. Read a thread on a different forum of people experimenting taking the trim off the aqueon tanks, but that seems like an accident waiting to happen imo. The one i read he completely took the tank apart and resealed it with something stronger than the factory silicon and it lasted for a few months (the duration of the thread) i have no idea if it broke or he took it down or what. Rimless is cool and all but not worth the extra 150 or so for the tank imo.

I dont know much about your light, but I have a 40b with a reefbreeders 24". I was never really able to raise the light enough to eliminate shadowing so I added 2 retrofit T5's. This cleared it up and color has greatly improved especially in my BTA. Something to consider.

Just thought id throw an update here if anybody cares to look if not its good to keep a log i guess. Its been about a month of consistent weekly water change my parameters are leveling out pretty well still have some and lowalk (was about 6 dkh when i just tested although i dont like the redsea test i have) but i think im going to start dosing a 2 part soon just to try and get it up a little bit.
The wall hammer i bought is slowly fading i dont think it will last too much longer it keeps throwing out the brown strands of zooanthelle algae? Idk and gets a slime over it almost everyday (probably put it in my tank too early).
I added a hi fin goby and a pistol shrimp 13 days ago and have seen the goby only twice and that was about day 3 and 4 it came out to eat then disappeared and haven't seen it since nor have i seen the pistol shrimp at all so idk maybe hiding still is this normal?
Thats all for now i suppose[emoji482]
