How thick is that glass Lesley? Is it going to be braced?
3 viewing sides 15mm
End weir 20mm
Will be euro braced top , bottom & 3 cross braces
It's 2500ltrs of water unfortunately engineers wouldn't approve no bracing even if all 20mm because of 4'9 width

Hi
Well after many months of research & asking
The automation of the lights is underway

LIGHTS
6 units 4 x 54w giesemann matrix dimitec
5 x 54w full spectrum pulsar led

Engineer is building a light frame
2300mm x 1200mm
Will be zinc & double powder coated black

Blue is Matrix
Red is Pulzar
img_9003-jpg.56227

The lighting will be running across the tank and this set up allows for full tank coverage

Now obviously with tank being so wide would be impossible to reach in for maintenance tasks
So decided this whole unit has to be electrically lifted out the way and easily put back to its original height
It's total weight 155kg
Preferably via remote control

img_9213-jpg.56231

The next step begins
Hoping will be installed within the next 2 weeks

The light frame will still show the gorgeous matrix fixture ( thanks to me )
Although I've def complicated the whole / easy usual hood
Why hide it when it's such a sexy unit
Right ?
Tell husband they lol

Well she's moved :)
Set up
Am emergency ibc which thankfully wasn't needed
Started 4.30pm
Finished - up running by 9pm
Thank god we built an
Overrated tank stand & decent builders
The biggest issue was getting the trolleys under the stand
Nothing a couple of car jacks couldn't do :)
Can't say any losses yet. I unfortunately suspect we may have lost 2 new little blues who would not come out there hiding holes
But am holding out hope will
See them tomorrow
And corals - well only time will tell

Once they were placed & strapped steve rolled the tank across the room
By himself
Lights & clean up tomorrow
Phew
So relieved that's over

While watching cricket at 10pm
We heard a noise - water
Both looked over at the tank
img_4280-jpg.56253

With in seconds of hearing a little water , there was no doubt what was happening - the 7ft length front seal had popped

No stopping it
Within 6 mins we had no water in the tank
100+ corals and 18 fish

We had lost power as water and got into the electric supply

We had the foresight to grab 2 x 200lt barrels right at the beginning & lean them against the front panel we captured about 300 ltrs of spilling water, while scrambling to the back of the house to grab an ibc

Dumped the ibc into lounge floor
Husband passing rocks to me and me literally throwing them in ibc
No regard for corals at this stage at all
Our priority was getting all the rocks out so fish wouid be easy to catch

Corals all over sand
Fish now flapping - no water we just grabbed them all by hand and threw them
Into one of the barrels

With them now back in water we started up the generator - pumped the fishless barrel water into the ibc

Was enough to just cover rocks
So I then pumped any sump water to ibc
Netted all fish out barrel into ibc & used the remaining barrel water to top it up
Added flow & heat
This is what I saw when power was restored

img_9600-png.56254

Now how do you remove 1300ltr water - call SES
30 mins later 2 trucks 8 guys restored power - wet vac moved furniture
Can't thank these guys enough for
Giving up sat night

img_9554-jpg.56255

SES - your carpets ate ruined & all skirting boats , kitchen kick boarding & possibly cupboards
Who you insured with
RAA - oh good ring then straight away tell them ses says emergency claim
Its 1.40am
Ring RAA - lovely lady Answered after 10 mins says putting you through to assessor who was whispering into phone as to not wake her husband
Tells me she can have carpet people here by 4am
Well no that's fine don't wake him
So 7am carpet man st door
img_9601-jpg.56256

Yes 4 bedrooms , office. Lounge dining just like that

Good news is.
All stock survived bar 1 bristle tooth tang whose just vanished
Not so sure about corals
So she's gone - dead - no more
Sad day for us I promise you

Thanks

Oh mate, what a pain in the butt! i take it we are guessing the move caused the seal to pop?

i guess this will make you build the new tank stronger :)

Insurance company has sent an engineer & tank builder
Opinion is that it was not the move , it was a matter of time
Appears a tank of this size & particularly height should have had bottom all around euro bracing & 2 overhead cross braces
So it was always going to happen we just hurried it along
The new tank is braced very wel indeed yes
We hope !!!!

I had to read your last post twice. So sorry to hear. How are the fish\corals? More importantly the house ??

House is a disaster
6 huge industrial fans drying the concrete

Was feeding the ibc this morning and bingo
Little bristle tooth appears
He had obviously hidden in a rock and finally decided ok to come out
So stock loss - 0
Have farmed out our Clams & cuc
Corals - to early to tell their be honest
Suspect sps will struggle

Hardest task for me is 18 fish -13 of which
Are tangs & no filtration
Set auto wc up to do 50 ltrs a day (700lt) Ibc

And testing Ammonia nitrites nitrates dail

Reading your thread and what you went through put me on an emotional roller coaster this morning. Excitement for your new build, worry over the move (something I would never be brave enough to attempt), relief and amazement when it was done so quick and seemingly easy and then pure anxiety over the emergency, some nausea and finally sadness. I couldn't imagine going through this. I'm so sorry it happened.
Is there anyway you can rig a hang on overflow onto the ibc back to the sump and filtration system there? You might have to have long soft tubing running across your rooms if you can't move the ibc closer to the sump though.
Good luck.

OMG! I'm sorry this has happened to you. It seems though that you have things figured out now. Thank goodness for the insurance company.

Oh wow! So sorry for your mishap. Luckily you were home when this happened and had the equipment to save all your livestock. I am excited for your new build but realize you are facing even more challenges now that this has happened. Good Luck!

New tank builds can be exciting but overwhelming with problems.

It's a glass aquarium
7 x 2.5 x 2.5

Thank you for al your best wishes it's been a really terrible few days

Woke up this morning to very cloudy water almost bacterial bloom look
Tested
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
So all looking safe
We just remembered ( brain dead last few days ) our deltec skimmer is an external
We ran internal
So today we will plumb it to run from the ibc
I am hoping that will be enough to help keep the water clean & oxygenated.
We got another 2000lt delivery of nsw
So will do a 100lt change a day until sorted

I am running 2 gyre 150's at 80% creating surface agitation
Am feeding very little

I actually can't see the fish today so once waters clears hope all
Ok
Seems it will be a huge challenge to keep this stock safe & alive
We would be so sad if we managed to save then from the tank to only have them die in the dam ibc
And to make matters worse new tank has been delayed till the 20th April
But we need it to be right not rushed
Any other suggestions ?
Willing to try anything ?

Thanks
