Hi, I'm setting up my 55g for a reef tank w/ nanos. So far I have a Coral Beauty Angel, A Flame Angel, a pair of Purple Firefish, and a pair of Black and White Ocellaris Clowns. I also have 2 mushroom rocks, a soft coral that looks like a tree kind of (I don't remember the name of it) and some kind of Zoanthid, (its brownish purple). I also have a list made up of fish I would like to add. Please let me know if any of them are not compatable. And please suggest some low light hardy corals. I will be upgrading my lights to a 120w led coral grow light pannel. But not untill the next month or so. Here's my list:

4 Orange Lined Cardinals
2 Purple Firefish (own)
Coral Beauty Angel (own)
Flame Angel (own)
Green Clown Goby
Helfrichi Firefish
3 Kaudern's Cardinals
Court Jester Goby
2 Black and White Ocellaris' (own)
2 Ocellaris'
Orchid Dottyback
3 Yellowhead Jawfish
Neon Blue Goby

Hi Jordan. I'd recommend not adding more than two clowns to the tank. They are territorial fish and will not last together in the long term.

I can't really say much else about fish compatibility, but it seems like a lot of fish for a 55 gallon tank. After removing the second pair of clowns, you might have to cut that list down in half or more. You could have water quality issues that would be hard on the fish and/or the corals. Just my thoughts.

I would agree on the clowns. I would only put one pair in a 55.

If you already have a pair of firefish I think they might go after the helfrichi.

I have read that the court jester gobies (which I love) are very particular eaters and are hard to keep. I think they feed on some sort of microfauna
and need a very mature tank.

The dwarf angels are known to nip on LPS corals so at least be aware of that moving forward. Every fish is different but you will want to keep an eye on them.

I have found the dottybacks to be terrors. The two i have tried over the years I have had to return. They chased everything and wouldn't let any of the rock dwelling fish (like my firefish) out of their bolt holes.

I am not familiar with that particular jawfish but three of them in one tank seems like a lot.

I really like the idea of adding a lot of nano fish to a larger tank. I am trying something similar with mine but I think that is a really big list for a 55.

I added up there adult sizes and its close to 55 inches. I know the rule of thumb is 1 inch per gallon. So I'm not worried about the amount. I took off the clowns, Helfrichi, court jester goby, and dotty back. How's it look now?

How do the coral beauty and the flame angel do together? And how is the flame angel as far as aggression goes?
