6 Line Wrasse Uronema?

Hi I got this fish from a friend and have been quarantining it with other fish from the system and 2 fish from another system. I usually never cross qt fish but they had been separately visually qt for several weeks prior with no symptoms of anything. I did however have 2 small damsels and a small bicolor psuedochromis which I didn’t see any real aggression but that is my other thought. Also to that point I see the wrasse has a bit tattered fins. Please let me know if this is Uronema or just fighting damage/ infection. I have read protocol on best treatment for either and would just like your opinion. Thankyou. This looks to be an injury rather than uronema which wrasses rarely if ever get. Can stem from aggression, coarse sand or mechanical injurt
Uronema is often oval and ciliated

Do you think adding Nitrofurazone to its water would be beneficial? I have some on hand. If not what would you recommend as treatment if it is just damage/general infection

I recommend either ruby rally pro which is reef safe or more effective in a separate tank - seachem neoplex. If aggression, teeth can cause damage as well as rocks

Uronema is most easily seen under a slide as a moving protozoan, so a still pic doesn't help ID it. Did you see any slow moving, oval protozoans in the slide? I do see fish chromatophores in the slide, that means you are digging too deep to get the material for the slide, that is causing additional tissue damage.

I'd say the primary lesion is from tankmate damage, but these wrasse are pretty sly and I'm surprised that an otherwise healthy one got tagged so severely.

I'd use neoplex since it is in a hospital tank now, but watch the ammonia level in the tank during treatment.

I agree and was planning to start the Neoplex immediately. I was going to dose the qt tank but should I combine it with focus in the food aswell? Target the inside and out, or is it too much?

No - DON'T mix antibiotics with Focus in the food unless you dose it correctly. Too many people read that you can just mix them together and feed it to the fish, but you cannot get a proper dose that way. Neoplex doesn't even have an oral dose in my primary formulary.

I just got back from the LFS, I purchased Neoplex but it appears to have expired 12/23. No other store around has it in stock. Would it still be beneficial to use? If so should I alter the dose?

Why would they sell you an expired product??

It will be fine to use just may not be as effective. Meds like that lose their effectiveness over
Time. How much in 16 months I couldn’t say but it won’t hurt
