60g breeder SPS reef

This tank is doing very well. Super stable at this moment, good PE across the board.

Wife and I discussed upgrading this tank to a 125 - she said yes!

The beauty of a 125 is I can finally try a Biota yellow tang, and I won’t need to upgrade any of my existing equipment!

Plan is to tackle that sometime in fall when our jobs are much quieter.

In the meantime….coming soon:

if it comes in really small I might actually start it off in the 25g lagoon frag tank. I’ve seen them as small as 1” at the store, and worried about how well one that size will fare in my 60b.
Congrats on being able to upgrade to a bigger tank! What other kinds of fish are you wanting to get in there besides the Biota Yellow Tang

Great job on the tank Northern.

So I watch the Bear Valley Eagle Cam from time to time and last week or so a Flicker landed on the next. The baby eagles look at it and everyone was chilling together. Pretty neat. The camera operator just happened to be there and got a few close ups of it while it hopped around the edge of the nest branches and eating.

Thought of you right away with name and avatar. I didn't get type of Flicker it was but it was good to see. Hope your day is well.

I wouldn’t hesitate buying the biota tang now in your 60 breeder. They all usually come in around silver dollar size.
I have a small Tomini in roughly the same size 60 gallon and it loves it in there.

Gosh they are so much easier than when I used to work with the wild caught tangs at the LFS back in the day. @Biota_Marine keep up the awesome work. These captive bred fish that feed and acclimate are a joy to keep. Can’t wait to see it grow up and move to the 6 foot tank.

One question - it seems to be ignoring the seaweed (picking all day at hair algae I grew for it) but is gobbling down mysis. Is this a long term diet issue?

I did also add a CB Striped Blenny. I was surprised that he and the CB bicolour Blenny decided to go exist in the same barnacle cluster lol. Good thing I bought 3 more for them to ignore!

Also, got my first wild caught fish - a silver belly wrasse. Decided that the flatworms posed too big of a threat to the balance in the tank and went away from my only CB plan. What a hard worker it is!

Unrelated but for my own tracking - switched T5 bulbs from 3 Blue+ and 1 Coral+ to all 4 Blue+.

Reason is the Primes only hit about 35w with the blues cranked, leaving a lot of potential power unused. By cranking the whites, I can use their full power. I also can leave the T5s on longer now because they blend better with the evening blues.

I think this chalice has a lot of potential:

To be honest I’m not even sure.

My dream fish is a pair of captive bred swallowtail angels as they are truly reef safe, but not sure a 125 would be enough space long term. Might try a captive bred hippo tang, but I think I might be too sad when I have to rehome it.
