Hello all,
I am in the process of setting up a 75g mixed reef tank. I am currently overwhelmed with all of the options for lighting. I have narrowed it down to Smatfarm, Viparspectra, or Hypargero. My question would be regarding wattage. Would 2x 100W SF or HG be sufficient for LPS, nems, and possibly SPS? Or would I be better off with 2x Viparspectra 165W. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure that there are various opinions, I would vote for (2) Viparspectra 165w. Good luck with whatever you choose!

The goal is spread and a solid spectrum representation with good peaks in violet, royal blue and light blue with some whites blended in. For a mixed reef, you are shooting for about 50-75 par on the sand and 150-200 par on the top of your scape. So, spectrum controllability, intensity control, par output, and ease of use and programming are the factors you should use to make your decision. Mounting is also something to consider. People who use these lights will chime in I'm sure.

That’s what I’m leaning toward. They are a bit bulky and don’t have the sunrise/sunset but I can get two of them for $240 after tax and I know they’ll be bright enough. I’ve read good things about smatfarm. They cost a little more ($330 for 2x95W) or ($400 for 2x140W) but they’re nice looking and easier to mount. I’m hoping someone might chime in on the 95W and if it’s enough for a 75g.

I think I’ve decided on the Smatfarm 140w. Although the the Viparspectra are cheaper, I would have to buy separate moon lights and mounting brackets. That makes the smatfarms only about $80 more since they come with mounts and moon cycle. Plus they’re more aesthetically pleasing.

Viparspectras are about 110 watts each. If that about 1/2 is " blue" and the other " white".
So depending on usage it isn't much stronger than the other lights you picked .
Now the narrow lenses do skew this a bit.

why not look into the noopscyche k7? If you're working with a budget, I don't think you can beat the useable par for $: https://noopsychereeflight.com/products/k7-pro-iii-full-set-aquarium-led-coral-light
I was looking into these as well but reviews on shipping seemed to be poor with one stating it took 3mos to receive. While I am taking this build slow I’d like to have the lights within a couple of weeks.

Thanks, after reviewing countless posts, reviews and receiving a 10% discount I did indeed go with the Noopsyche K7 Pro 3. It came to $322 for 2. Now hopefully they don’t take too dreadfully long to arrive. I’m excited. This is my first reef tank in about 10yrs. Back then I ran 250W 20k MH with T5. I still have all of the equipment but wanted to step into the 21st century lol.

Yes, only took about a week. They’re pretty awesome! Granted I don’t have any experience with the high end LEDs for comparison. I’ve had a couple of black boxes that weren’t bad but I love these. The connectivity of the app sucks. It constantly needs reconnected but it’s functional. I love how each channel is fully customizable. I’m still playing around with the settings but I’m loving them so far. I’m working on printing some shades. I’ll add some pics at some point. In my build thread I just have the blues on at 10% I think.
