if you prefer white, look at the reef breeders nano or pico. I prefer blue but could NOT control the spectrum so it's just white. Another choice is the Nicrew pico light, you can turn on white, blue and white/blue spectrum on it.
Oh i have no issue getting the look out of the noops that I like. They have a pretty good range.

It definitely is a heavy blue, but in the space and seeing it it's not as intense as it comes off in the photos. The controls on through their app are clunky, and I didn't spend that much time manually adjusting it. I went with one of the LPS presets they had and like it so far.

I'll play with the settings more seriously when algae starts coming and when it's time to add livestock.

In person and via photo are way different. wish the camera would pick up the colors how the naked eye sees them.

tank is looking good though.

Question for the reefers!

If you had free rein to stock this tank, what would you do? Would love to hear peoples ideas and now that the scape is "done".

Since it's a blue tank, it's best when it's a coral that reacts to it. Since it is an anemone build.. the high end ones like Sherman or Black Widows is what I would to (if you like the red colored ones). Chicago (more yellow) or Colorado (more orange) depending on color preference.

Do NOT mix anemones that are high end because of the low success rate. It's probably expert level (and I've lost so many anemones thinking I can pull it off). You can mix rainbow bubble tip anemones as many as you like.

There are also rock flower anemones, haddoni (which is nice if it a red one that fills the entire tank with a bunch of clowns-- probably not for 9 gallons but for 20-40 gallon tanks).

For my tank, I plan to get inverts instead of fish like pom pom crabs, sexy shrimp (which are fun to watch when they are on an anemone), porcelain anemone crab which keeps anemones in place. I cant seem to find a fish small enough for the 8g.

One of my LFS has some nice Chicago Sunbursts but they run $300-$400 - another store has nice Rose & Rainbow BTA's for only like $60-$90. I think I'm going to end up with a Rose just from the price point.

I'm currently working on a rock flower "garden" for my 27g. Currently they're in a little breeder box with pom poms and sexy shrimp. Have thought about this 9g just being a flower garden but tbd. The only invert I haven't seen at my LFS' are porcelain crabs.

For your 8g idk how many could fit, but maybe barnacle blennies? They take up little space and are pretty fun to watch.

where are you located? i am in central Virginia and can sell you all the rose or rainbows you want $20 each. my 300G has approx 40 rose and 10 rainbows

Don’t mind the mess. Tank isn’t aquascaped, or added sand or cleaned the glass sense being set up

Update: not much to show but the turbo start, pods and cheato came today from Algaebarn and added to the tank.

Got some algae starting on the glass and rocks, but nothing crazy. Will grab a few sails/hermits next time I go to my LFS to start dealing with that.

This weekend I think I'm going to move the maroon clown from the 27g to the 9g. This will only be temporary to help cycle the tank and I can make some changes on my other tanks.

Got some random questions for this tank and my others:

1. Leptosaris in this 9g tank. I have 0 experience with this coral, but I think something encrusting this pillar on the left of the rockwork would have a really cool look. Would there be any concerns with this? Everything seems like its easy enough and grows quickly. I assume it can't encrust over sand and will stick to the rockwork only?

2. What Corals have the best chance with a flame angel? I want to do something basic with my 55g, but it has the flame and I have no idea how it is with coral. Reading other posts, it sounds like Flames don't typically eat GSP? Wondering how accurate that is, and what else is simple/little concern with them. If I can do GSP on the back wall and something on the rocks (xenia?) I'd be happy.

Update: So here's the stocking list for the 9g
2 Spingeri Damsels
1 Azure Damsel
1 Talbot's Damsel

What could go wrong? I also added a mangrove pod.

What really happened is I decided to give my 55gal a hardscape redo, and these guys are in here for a few days while I let the more peaceful fish establish their territories. The bigger tank has really just been fish & inverts, but got a bunch of GSP from my LFS and hoping to get all of these rocks green over the next few months. Pic attached but the glass still needs a good scraping. I'll probably post updates on that here incase anyone wants to follow along lol.

One real development is that I was able to get my hands on a Chicago Sunburst BTA for a very reasonable price. So far its happy hanging out in a breeder box in my 27g.

And just for fun there's a photo of a mushroom that's been hitching a ride on a hermit the last few days.

Is the anemone in the picture supposed to be the Chicago sunburst? Looks like a regular RBTA , seems to have purple/pink tips?

That Chicago looks odd. I'd ask an expert about that coloration. Seems to be a regular rainbow one.

Well, according to the guy at the store its a sunburst. I've been been going to this store for a while now and trust them/him, but he did say they got it from a clients tank they service so who knows.
It was cheaper then another store's rainbow/rose bta's (since it's so small) so not the end of the world if it's not a sunburst.

Also, I wanted to add nems for my 55g and 27g so if this isn't a sunburst it'll still get a good home. Glass half full!

Could be Arizona or Pacific. The main sunbursts are Chicago and Colorado.

I don’t think it’s a sunburst anemone , but nonetheless it still looks like a nice healthy anemone !

Anyone want to help me with my 55g restocking list?

The big thing i've been contemplating is trying a pair of Flame Angels.. Would I be completely crazy? Ideally I want a Flame and a Lemon or Coral Beauty, but feel like trying to get a pair of one type of angel would (theoretically) have less aggression down the road, but still a probably a tight fit. The pic above shows the rockwork so I have plenty of space for them to break line of site and areas to graze. These would go in last anyway so a problem for later.

The only other big boi in the tank is my Tomini Tang who i've had for ~4-5 years at this point. Other fish currently in the tank are Pair of Occelaris (Wyoming White and Black Ice/Photon that are also about 5-6 years old), a Yellow Watchman/Pistol Shrimp pair and a Lawnmower Blenny

+ the 4 damsels (2 Springeri, 1 Azure, 1 Talbot) currently in the 9g.

The other fish i'd like to add (but might be too cramped)
1 - Royal Gramma or Splendid Dottyback/Orchid Dottyback
2 - Banggai Cardinals
1 - 6 Line Wrasse or a Halichoeres (yellow or Christmas)

Filtration on the tank is a Fluval FX6 (I know.. a canister.. gross..) but I've had success just upsizing the canister, and there is an Aquamaxx 1.5 hob skimmer. Since it's just been Fish/Inverts, haven't had to go crazy with it and I just do a 20% monthly water change.

Sorry for the essay, but anyone that made it this far, let me know your thoughts and help me trim this list up!

Hey Everybody,

Just dropping an update. Haven't really had much going on as I let the tank cycle a bit. Funny enough, I only just moved the damsel fish to my bigger tank, and only lost the 2nd Springeri while in holding for 2 months.

I'm working on getting a pair of Naked Occelaris for the 9g soon!
