The skimmer is great! I’ll say it’s definitely not super quiet, but it pulls really nice, dark skimmate consistently. It does still let out some micro bubbles, but those don’t even make it out of the skimmer chamber. I would buy it again for sure.
How big is your skimmer chamber

I’ve been getting a fair amount of cyano recently. Took away the auto feeder, started just feeding frozen, and then upped both powerheads a few ticks. It seems to be receding now. Coraline is also really starting to come in on the new rock.

All my little acros seem to be doing well. One of the two nubs of red planet that rtn’d is now encrusting, I’m pretty happy I didn’t totally lose it.
I’m still dealing with what I think is cyano. It’s stringy, on mostly the sand but on some rock. Blows off easy and doesn’t really have air bubbles. I’ve changed my feeding and started blasting it daily. Also just got some live phytoplankton to dose and see if it helps.

Skimmer is more or less back to normal, however I’m now getting this rusty red algae growing on my sand. It disappears when I stir the sand, seems to only be at the top layer of sand. Is this just strangely colored diatoms?

Took these last night while the blues were ramping down.. phone plus orange lens. The wd is probably my favorite thing in the tank now that it’s growing branches. How worried should I be about the neighboring pc rainbows encrusting?

Did some trading at the local shops and brought home a gold hammer that I dragged up to remove that orange sponge stuff, a trachy and some dragon’s breath. One of my paled out acros is finally taking on some color, it’s such a nice purple. The only way I’ve been able to capture the color is under the nighttime blues. Things are going swimmingly! Despite some dinos in the sand. It stays in certain areas so I’m not going to stress over it.

The macros are doing well. Dragon’s breath is getting some intense orange tips. The hammers I manhandled are all nice and full. Excited to see those grow.

Another klir roll down. It’s been working like a champ. Easy to clean and replace. Always a lot of gunk on the rollers, similar to what gets cleaned out of the neck of the skimmer.

I’ve also finally gotten tired of having to fix the sand crater/pile the rp-m creates every day or two. It wouldn’t have bothered me much except the pile was covering a red acan. So I picked a spot, dropped in a new rock and smoothed out the sand. This morning the sand bed is just how I left it, so the rock seems to be doing the trick. Plus, more spots for coral right?
Lastly, meet Bottle. He came home in a bottle because his bag sprang a leak. Also the name of a character from the epic fantasy series The Malazan Book of the Fallen, by Steven Erikson. I’ve since named all of the fish in this tank after the 4th squad of the 14th army. 7 squad members, 7 fish…I might be getting bored… anyways;

Carpenter’s Wrasse - Fiddler
Pink-Spot Goby - Tar
Big Clown - Koryk
Little Clown - Smiles
Tailspot Blenny - Bottle
Springeri Damsel - Cuttle
Lyretail Anthias - Corrabb Bhilan Thenu’alas

I absolutely love Malazan Book of the Fallen, naming your fish after those characters is inviting bad luck tho, probably

Your tank looks amazing by the way! Brilliant idea to use your sump as a frag rack too, gives you so much more space and a way to acclimate and quarantine corals all in one, I love the tank man

First time running into another fan in the wild! I’ve finished, I know what suffering I’ve doomed them to lol. Favorite character? I’m really excited for The God is Not Willing, and for him to finish the Kharkanis trilogy. Reading through The Black Company while I wait. I gave Ian’s Orb, Scepter, Throne a try, but I think I’d need for him to use new casts to enjoy it. His take on familiar characters was very jarring, and to me in some cases just wrong.

Thank you! I’m getting a lot of enjoyment out of it.

My favorite character is probably Coltaine, the entirety of the tale surrounding him is just incredible, and is one of the few things in literature to ever make me shed a tear. Followed by Whiskeyjack and Paran, probably. Phenomenal books, truly. Haven’t run into many fans either!

What’s your favorite coral you have right now?

I definitely did more than once throughout.

Probably the tiny rainbow Mille I’ve got in there, because of what I expect it to look like grown out…. Or the new wellso lol. Yours?

They’re such amazing books, both brutal and moving, it’s incredible what the author can accomplish.

The Rainbow Mille will be incredible when it’s grown! That wellso is certainly magnificent, and will be stunning as it gets bigger. My favorite right now is probably this tiny little green cabbage leather I’m growing. I’m rather new to the hobby and so I don’t have anything but softies and a single candy cane polyp, but I absolutely love the leathers. He doesn’t look impressive at all yet, but he’ll grow (I hope). He’s put on polyp mass since I got him, but hasn’t grown outward or upward much. All I’ve got is a tiny aio 5 gallon tank

It’s definitely a disservice when people get through Deadhouse Gates and decide ‘oh, it’s just grimdark.’ Lol.

cabbage leathers look crazy grown out! Hey, small tank small problems. I miss a 5 gallon water change being 50% sometimes. I started small too, and definitely never regretted doing so.
