can someone also ID this chalice(i think its a chalice?) for me?
zzz.jpg

and also this blue dot shroom..?

I dont see a chalice. Are you referring to that blue spotted mushroom in the bottom pic?

Looks like a bleached platgyra to me, not a chalice

are you looking for species names or trade/coloration names?

trade names

?

Those are some nice frags either way - The green zoas are Radioactive Dragon Eyes.

lol i knew that haha  i took that one for the frag plug! being cheap dont want to spend the money on one..

no, second picture.. close to the glass, white/tanish (really light green), looks like a rock infront ot the radioactive dragon eyes..

I believe he is refering to the picture above that with the white thing in the sand...not sure what it is.

lol only called it a chalice cause idk what the heck it is!

thanks, how would i go about returning its coral? should i leave it at the bottom or raise it up in the tank?

That is some interesting growth on the coraline!,ahaha

yea it used to look like purple cap but it started melting away in my dad's brand new tank over the past couple months..

I'd keep it in low light, low flow for a while and and hopefully it will recover. Is the flesh in good shape, or is the skeleton poking through?

no but it started receding a lil around the edges, it looks alot better in my tank than it did a few hours ago in his though..

Did you dip it in a coral cleaner before transferring it over? Will it be shaded?

no i dont own any dip =[

but i would think that might harm it a little seeing how its not in great shape.. im running a lil over 90w of LEDs per day, should i shade it or just leave it at the bottom about 20inches from the light maybe a lil less..

I'd try target feeding it some brine or mysis tonight after lights out. Platgyras are painfully slow growers, but can recover pretty quickly from bleaching events IME given the proper conditions. When putting it in a lower flow area, make sure it isn't in an area of no flow. Platgyras have a habit of getting covered with waste when not given proper flow that will eventually lead to their demise. I'd keep it in this lower flow area for about a week to allow it to recover, but make sure to blow it off with a turkey baster each day to remove any waste.

If it's healthy, it will. Not as pronounced as other brains like favias/favites, but it should have them at night. Even if it won't put its feeders out, I'd still keep it in low light/flow for a couple days and then move it into a bit higher flow with low light. Target feeding will allow it to recover faster, but as long as it isn't too far gone, it'll recover through filter feeding off of stuff in the water column.
