A LFS (not the one I normally go to) today told me Kessil lights burn out quickly and get stuck in modes (like either only blue or only white) after a while. They are a Kessil dealer.

This can’t be 100% True considering the amount of Kessil’s I see everywhere, but it’s making me a little cautious about running out and getting them

Sounds like an opinion, maybe they had a return to two.

They seem to have a tendency to die at the 2 year mark for a lot of people

I had two 360 we for over two years- not a single issue. Also had an A150 over 3 years and again - no issues

A LFS here replaced the 3 a360we with 3 hydra 32 over one of his frag rack and said he liked them way more than the 360s. Better spread and less shadowing. Not sure if he had any issues though. I have 4 myself and all bought used and no issues yet.

These kinds of anecdotal reports are pretty useless frankly. Unless Kessil starts releasing mean-time-to-failure data it’s all just conjecture. ... so here’s mine :). I’ve owned about 20 of their lights. Other than the H380, one failed at about a year and was replaced under warranty and a second failed at about 2 1/2 years, not under warranty. Fan/heat sink design is a problem because there’s no way to get the lint out of it short of completely taking the thing apart. My understanding is that part of the 360x redesign was to address this problem. I’ve mostly been happy with them, except .....

H380 is more of a problem. Although the light is well sealed, the fan fails very easily. Fan on mine has crapped out twice now. Relatively easy to fix, but still a questionable design.

If you clean them they probably won't fail. - Take them apart and clean them don't just blow some air in them.

If you don't clean them they are more prone to failure. My A350 was purchased in 2012 and it still is above my tank. I have had a problem with an a360, a360we no issues yet.

Mine have been working fine from 160we's to 360we's for the last 4.5 years. I had one 160 that had the white leds stop working after 1.5 years so I called Kessil and they sent me a new one and I sent them the defective one. 1 out of nine lights with an issue and was corrected for free out of warranty is good enough in my book. My fish really like them too. Unfortunately I'm gonna need to upgrade soon cuz the dang corals seem to like them too.
