What LPS corals where you proud of owning but lost them. I made a huge mistake of using some salt from a reefer that shut his tank down. My eyes lit up thinking free salt, but after doing two water changes my nitrate went over 100ppm. I lost candy canes and a Euphyllia hammer and two Acan Lord frags etc... straight away. My two Acan Echinata corals tried to hold on. But by the time I got my nitrate down to around 25ppm it was too late. All I have left of the LPS I had are these photos.

I have never seen a prettier Acan Enhinata as the one in the last image. Those were some stunning LPS. :-(.

I think of myself as a strong who did 9 years in the British Army..... I cried less when I stubbed my toe and made my nail bed bleed, but I was absolutely gutted that I lost them. They were well looked after and fed well.

Absolutely stunning photographs, btw. Well done, and I'm sorry for your loss. So, my question is; what brand of salt caused your nitrates to shoot up to 100ppm? If this were a commercially available brand, this is something the rest of use would like to know. Did you test a batch of newly made saltwater (mixed with 0 tds rodi) to verify that it was indeed the salt?

No doubt. Assuming a 20% water change, the salt must have been at 500 ppm!

It was salt I would never think of using, Kent. It had lumpy salt in and I removed them and gave it no thought. It probably soaked up water and went bad. When I went back to Red Sea salt after a few changes it came down.
