Hi guys, I've just ordered 2 A8se reef lights and my question is: has anyone ever tried to insert the Mobius bluetooth chip in the motherboard of this light?
Thanks and good reefing!!

That would be great if you can.

I did purchase two A8se devices secondhand off Facebook Marketplace. The seller let them go very cheaply because he did not know how to download the AIPAI app on Android.

I contacted a random Alibaba seller and asked him for the app, and he sent me a barcode.

I figured I would share the barcode link for the app in case anyone else is looking for it.

Haha, it's in the manual and on the side of the box. I did load it on an old unused phone and connect via my guest wifi. The app def works but Bluetooth like the DMP would be much better.

He told me that he threw the box and paperwork in the garage a month before he got to set up the lights and couldn't figure out how to get an app for it.

His loss is my gain. Lol

Have you got them setup? While using the app, what does the Out IN, and Back Go buttons do? Clean , moon? lol. facepalm

I would rather spend a weekend alone, in a log cabin with no power, no food, no WiFi and the only thing I have to entertain me is that sleepy Joe is staying in the cabin to my right than have to use Mobius.

Actually I never tried the buttons. I used the app to program them and never touched them again. The schedule works perfectly.

Are you suggesting the hardware is similar enough that the Chinese version has a slot for an ecotech BLE chip?

This would akso require the 2 softwares to be compatible with each other. Which, they are not. Mobius is a proprietary software that doesn't allow equipment to be recognized without the proper protocol.

I'm not saying that software couldn't be written to mimic that handshake, but the A8SE or any other radion look alike won't be capable of this out of the box. It would require someone to gut the knockoff and add new hardware and software.

The only similarities these 2 lights platforms have with each other is the form factor and the LED arrangement. The way the lights are driven and communicate are completely different.

I did notice the light is controlled via an ESP32 module. Someone real smart could probably figure out how to install a custom firmware.

Would be great if somebody did a video that walked us through the app. It took me a while to get my light schedule but now that it's set up everything's on autopilot. Great lights
