Hi I experimented to frag a Acan. Cut a part off with a Dremel and glued to a plug. The plug is new I 3d printed. As it started to grow the new heads are different color. How can this be?

Acans sometimes start as a more colorful version and turn more red as they age in captivity. I am not sure why this happens but I have seen videos and read of it many times. My guess is that colony started as the color you are seeing on the new growth and turned red over time. The cutting of it may have caused this reversal on the new growth. Has there been any new growth off the mother colony where the fragging was done?

Yes I bought the acan as a frag like 5 heads over a year ago. Glued to a rock now it has maybe 40 heads. It was always red. Only thing that really changed was I'm on reef Moonshiners method and dosing live phyto.

Yeah you could have purchased it after it had turned red. It could also be the trace or phyto but I doubt it.
I dont know a lot about the acans turning red not sure what causes it or if its reversible. Just read your post and saw the pic and that popped in my head. It seems it happens with the "rainbow" acans mostly. I would say the new polyps fall in that catagory.

Thanks for all your info. I like it looks more exotic lol. Was trying to figure out what happened so maybe I can reproduce it.

Yeah all the things I have read and watched all say the same things lighting intensity, light spectrum, possibility of trace deficiency or abundance. No one has a for sure answer. Rainbow acans in low light keep their rainbow colors and loose them turning red, in high light same outcome. Same stories with traces. Maybe see if you or when you can frag the mother colony again and move the frag to a different lighting intensity see if the same thing happens might be related to the traces you have.
