So my alk is good and all of my other pars are good, but now my green tort decided it wants to die...in a weird way

It is dieing from all of the tips down, almost every spot where a polyp should be, is dead?

base is kinda dieing too

All of my other acros are doing good, infact some are growing back over there white tips!

So does anyone have an idea off the top of there head whats happening?

No pics atm,sorry

I forget what its called when they bleach from tip down, there is a name for it,but today has been a super bad day and I have forgot the name.

I would say it might be a delayed death and maybe even shock from what happened before and it just didnt get a grip back again.

I would have ot look at it like a sick cat or dog,it gets sick, you treat it,it gets somwhat better, but just cant get a grip on its health, and then passes.

Well now i test about every 2 days...and use marine buffer to raise it, if its to high..i do a water change

It has been around 8.4 ever since migh alk outbreak a little while ago(11.2)

11.2 will def cause alk burn.

Have you thought about a dosing pump or reactor?

I would thik having alk swings is as to blame-I say this from having a SPS dominant tank and run my KH at 10.8 via an Apex and Ca Rx-
stability is key 11.2 IMO is not high

+1 for a calcium reactor
Do these guys look happy to me:smile:
this is half the tank;

Thanks for the kind words, I was only meaning to show that an alk pf 11.2 is not bad, at 10.8 my really do well, I think stability is really the key and my tank is a lot of medium frags, a few mini colonies, but all in time my brutha!!!
Pink ******* is the avatar
You can see my frag bottom right hand corner by the potters wrasse. Tucked between the Bubble GM, Tyree rainbow delight TEC WM, Original Oregon ME-LOL just to name a few-I have many more on the other side of the tank not pictured
I sent a PM to Jose, I want one of his My Miami frags, but he has not replied back.
I hate patience
Good luck again!

Cool my pb id still a 3/4 in. 5 small eyed frag, so its got some growing to do

I was looking at them, looks like you have a nice collection of chalices too

Patience is annoying, but atleast you know you will eventually have a frag of it:wink:

i think if the sps are well adjusted to the alk of 11 they will do fine but rapid changes will certainly cause deleterious effects. I certainly cannot go past 9.5ish....because of the bac driven system, dont know what it is but anything over that and alk burn on the corals...

+1 on the swing, mine is usually around 9.6 and I moved my tank, put new sand bed in, and it jumped to 11. Everything is fine but one stalk of caroliniana began to rtn so I cut it off with bone cutters and stopped dosing alk until I get it back to where I want it to be. It has stopped and everything looks good again.

Are you increasing the Alk too fast. Thats what happens when you do so. Those levels you listed weren't too high. But if you were at a 8 and raised it to a 11 that will burn the crap out of your sticks.

You shouldn't really be keeping acros without a dosing system or ca reactor. Not if you want to be successful with them

This is false information.

You do not have to run a CaR to keep acropora nor be succsessful with them.

I have had my fare share of problems with them and I have used a CaR,and I hate them with a passion to be honest.I think its eaiser to does daily than turing the CaR to the right doase and getting it all right.

I have kept acropora for 5 years with out a CaR and I dont want to ever go back to one,I almost lost my old collection of acropora like my Bali Green Slimmer,Purple Slimmer,Blue Slimmer, some of the older ORA pieces, now keep in mind, those were higher end 5-6 years ago then they are today. But no,you dont need a CaR to keep, nor be succsessful with acropora.
