Some of my acropora seem to be bleaching with reduced PE but only on the top where the light is hitting them. The par is nothing crazy in most of these spots (<250-300) and only some acros are doing it. Millepora seem fine but tenuis and a couple others are having this reaction. Many of them are growing just fine but it is progressively getting worse. Only changes/issues I am aware of are that I have been very slowly increasing my nitrates and phosphates from 0 to 1ppm and 0.03 ppm over the past six months and that my tin was high on an ICP test that was probably caused by a rusty MP40 wetside. I have had a run-in with AEFW about 9 months ago a little after I started acros but this doesn't seem to match the bite marks I saw previously.
Before people ask on water chemistry, alk is kept between 9.3-9.5 dKh, Calc ~400 and mag ~1400. A trident monitors it and I occasionally cross-check with salifert. For lighting I had gen 3 radions running AB+ on an 8 hour photoperiod and swapped to gen 5s this past weekend hoping it would help.
I have been running carbon since I had a leather get an infection and need to be cut and started cuprisorb to help lower the tin. I also started having trouble with some of my euphyllia, namely torches, for no apparent reason with them receding at the base inexplicably. I have heard of tin causing this in euphyllia so I attributed it to that, but maybe it is related or I have some sort of pest eating my coral.
I can't find any examples or pictures where the acros are bleached in a similar fashion but I have attached a picture of one of mine as an example.
The three tenuis in this image are turning white where the light hits but the PC rainbow encrusting in the top left is perfectly fine (except that it has decided not to branch). This is an older picture and they have only gotten worse.
