Hi guy, I just add new special grade sand without rinse. I added slowly 1/3 bag per day, but didn’t rinse. My tank seem cloudy, but I have skimmer and 2 filter socks. My tank has sps, lps and 9 fishes. Should I expect a mini cycle. I concern my coral and fish die tomorrow

yes it is alive caribsea special grade, i’m running skimmer really wet to filter out. Just concern about amonia and nitrate that will kill my sps and fishes. I still have 2/3 bag, should I rinse for next attempt?

Running a carbon reactor for a day or two should help clear it up. It may also clear up on its own in a day or two if you just added the sand today.

If you have any other filters, HOB or canister etc... you could hook them up for a little while. Other than that, just wait and let it settle down.

Adding sand will NOT cause a cycle. I dont even understand why people would say that.... unless you covered your rocks in sand and smothered the bacteria.

That was a new tank, nothing in it... except a lot of sand. Took me like 5 months to get rid of all that silt. :(

I run a thread called the sand rinse thread where for twenty pages we beg/ask/collect before and afters of those who pre rinse and don’t pre rinse their sand. Check out the opening collection, reasons to rinse:

10 days, still won't settle and clouds fully

From that collection, only one thing clear. Whoever wrote the directions for prep on the bags left out: rinse with cold tap for two hours prior to use, to evacuate silt. Throw out our flocculant pack, it’s a waste. Rinsing doesn’t remove bacteria from sand grains, enjoy your clean sand.

Should clear up in 24 hours. You’ll need to swap filter socks out as they will get clogged. Your fish probably won’t like you much, but they should be fine. It does storm in the ocean and water does get cloudy occasionally.
