My apex fusion is currently running via Wi-Fi. I could easily connect it directly to my router via Ethernet cable’s, which I under is preferred. Is it as easy as running a cable or is more setup/programming required?

I think it's nearly as easy as plugging in an Ethernet cable, yes. The status light should change from blue to orange.
