Yes! Especially if you have a larger tank. I have 6 in mine now.

i have a 75 with only small fish, cardnal, chromis x2, blue tang. looking into a chevron tang and then a flasher wrasse or 2. would 2 males of different species get along without females, or what would be my best bet!

I got my six line out of my tank today in anticipation of getting some other wrasses. He was the last aggressive fish in my tank, so I hope I get my two nice wrasses soon :)

Yeah, I used some acrylic and blocked off half the tank to make it easier. Then I started to disassemble the rocks. Once I had him cornered, he actually jumped out, and landed on top of the rimless glass, against the wall. It looked like he was just sitting on top of the tank. haha. Then he was easy to grab and put in the other tank.

Good luck with catching yours. They are small and quick, so try to use both hands if its possible. One had to scare him where you want, one hand holding a net.

I used a fish trap on my mystery (in a 280). I caught a threadfin butterfly and the mystery within an hour on Thanksgiving day. The butterfly was easy (he loves Aips, so I put an Aip rock in the trap and had him in less than 20 minutes). I had to actually fish for the mystery. I put a Formula cube (the kind that doesn't break down easily) into a depression in the back of the trap and manned the string from the couch. Every fish in the tank was interested and gathered around the trap tube. I'd drop the gate when an unwanted fish wanted in (caught the purple tang five times...). I actively fished for him for less than an hour before I got him. Had several things to be thankful for;).

I decided not to try and catch the mystery and sixline. I did add four tangs yesterday.. Mata tang, blue, yellow, and purple tang. They came from a local reefer all fat and healthy. I also have about 7 wrasses on the way from another buddy.

How big is your tank? Can your bio-system handle adding 4 tangs all at once? Then adding 7 wrasses all at once? Why did you start this thread? I don't get it.

I'd like to ask a follow on to the original question. I am adding a new 120 gallon tank to my set. I love wrasses, so I'd like to get several of different species. What do all of you think would be a nice mixture for beauty and peacefully getting along? I'll skip the 6 line and the mystery. I'll also skip anything really outrageously expensive.

Honestly, after doing my research on wrasses, I've come up with the conclusion that there are so many beautiful species to choose from. I think it's really up to what you like personally. Look on live Aquaria and there you can get an idea of what's out there. Good luck with your search and keep us posted on what you end up getting.

Yes but you want compatibility as well, it is not pleasant to watch a bunch of wrasses beating the pulp out of each other.

Well if it helps I have 5 wrasses in my system(90) and they all get along very well and they were added in this order Male Flame, Orange Back, Melenarus, Mystery, and Sunset Fairy. I would love to add a Labouti but I feel that may be pushing it.

I have a mystery wrasse, a radiant wrasse, and a solaris wrasse - each of a different genus - in my 120 reef and they get along great. I even added the radiant wrasse after the mystery had been in the tank for several months with no problems.

Adding Wrasses

I just migrated my 90 over to a 180. I have a Mystery Wrasse and Naoko's Fairy Wrasse, they get along fine. I also have a purple, chocolate, and powder brown tang, three anthias (squampinis), three purple fire fish, two zebra darts, three blue/green chromis, a true percula, and very beefy mandarin that will eat pretty much what ever floats by him.

Honestly, the tangs (purple in particular) are what bother the wrasses more than anything else and that has started to taper off a bit this week. My purple tang was probably the most social and gentle in the 90...now all of sudden in the 180, he thinks he is king of hill!!

But the wrasses are awesome and I too will be adding at least one more type....and really, its just as much about luck as anything else......

Thanks for the info.

I agree about the tangs. I have a yellow, and he's killed some of my fish. I want to sell him.
