I picked up a ball of chaeto from a friend at work and it has been my biggest mistake since starting my reef 7 months ago. Along with the chaeto came red flat worms and aiptasia. I have two difficult to get to very large aiptasia in hard to get to spots. I have tried lemon juice but they close up as soon as I get close with the syringe.. I can't get a Berghia nudibranch because I have a wrasse and the wand and lasers methods I don't trust. But aiptasia x looks promising. Any success stories?

I have had huge success with aptasia x only issue is you do have to get the syringe right in there before they close

Aiptasia x does work. Sometimes you have to treat the same aiptasia because if any is left it will grow back. My best advice... Nuke them when they are small. Don't disturb the aiptasia with the needle, instead try to squirter the solution out so it falls right on the disk. After treating look the next day to see if there is anything left and if you see even the smallest foot or piece of a stalk treat again that day. It works, but it doesn't work miracles.

What worked best for me was boiling hot rodi in a syringe. Approach the aptaisia slowly. Get close to its center press the plunger slowly. You wanna burn it so it cant close. Then you can stick it in it's mouth with more boiling water. The key is you can't go too fast. It will start turning white inside. You have to do this a few times then you can suck the whole thing out with the same syringe. Flush the syringe and get the next victim. I'm aptasia free for a couple of years now. Happy hunting.;)

Superglue, if possible raise rock til they are out of water and look like a blob, then superglue away, the water sets the glue and no more aiptasia. My experience with aiptasia x is that it kills the big 1s but little 1s always show soon afterwards in its place.

If you only have two I'd get them right away. If they spawn the even one spore will turn into 100 in a few months time

My problem is I can barley get to them. I can't move the rock work and they are at the deepest point at the very back bottom of my tank. Any that have shown up within reach the boiling water or lemon juice method has worked. These ones, which are the size of a silver dollar now, any time I manage to get close enough with a syringe close up and retreat into the Rock hole they are mounted in. If I understand correctly with aiptasia x they actually open up to accept it. That would be a huge help.

File fish. I had probably 50-70 in my tank. Aiptasia X killed some but just angered others. My problem went from just a couple to holy crap there every where. I finally got a file fish and he demolished them. To my knowledge, no more aiptasia!

The good thing about Aiptasia X is you don't have to touch the aiptasia. You can let the solution just fall on it and it wont close up or retreat at all, just melt away.

How is the file fish towards other corals? Will it eat normal food as well?

file fish is great but make sure he eats other food also
aptasia x works great but you must be proactive and kill them and us several doses when they appear or they will let loose spawn when they feel threatened

I've been able to take care of the ones I can get to, but there is one that's driving me crazy. It's on the underside of a rock facing the SB, and the rock is supporting other rocks and can't be moved. I tried injecting it once but the Aptasia X just drops to the SB. I decided to try Peppermint Shrimp, but last time I was at my LFS they had little bitty tiny ones and didn't want to spend the money just to feed my Melanarus.

Just got back from my LFS with some aiptasia X and tested it out. It literally melted and did not close up like before. I think this is going to work for me.

Keep an eye out close on them.
Aiptasia X basically starves them, glues them in place until it (the aiptasia X) breaks down.
If they continue to plague you hit me up!

I just hit one. He sat there kind of dazed and pulled all his tentacles in then withdrew back into the Rock. I am going to hit the others when my wife leaves for the gym. I will follow up.

Does anyone know what happens to a Filefish if it eats an Aiptasis that has been treated with Aiptasia X?

Are there any known bad effects on the Filefish or on any other critters that may ingest Aiptasia X this way?

It will not theoretically harm fish
But like a fish that gets into reef frag glue,it will be annoying and it will get off in a few days
That said ,if injested it shouldn't have a leathal reaction
File fish won't eat it if it has it on it
