Aiptasia

Hi guys my tank is starting to have a lot of aiptasia and I am new to this salt water thing. What is the best recommendation to kill them please.. is lazer burn the best way to go. #new#need#help

Peppermint shrimp will usually knock those out.

If it's just one or two then try AiptasiaX.

I wouldn't even try aiptasia x. It's very hard to actually apply unless the aiptasia are huge because you have to insert a needle in their mouth.
I got a single peppermint shrimp for my 25 gallon and he cleared the whole display within a week. I tossed him in the sump and haven't seen anymore since (2 months )

peppermint shrimp and aiptasia x... aiptasia x if have large ones, and peppermint will handle all the little ones... haven't seen one in my tank since adding 2 peppermints

@bevo5 I do have a lot. I have tried aiptasia x it never worked and I also tried the boiling water, they only shrunk and then grew even more

I take the aiptasia x up in a feeder tube. Turn off the pumps. Then drizzle the meds over the top. Let the critter catch and eat it. It may take multiple treatments.

I tried that once too. Didn't do a thing.
And make sure if you touch it or squeeze it, it will release spores to make more. I didn't know that at first either

File fish or a Kleins butterfly, though the butterfly will nip at other corals. I've tried shrimp, nudis, nuking with aptasia X over the last 10+ years. By far, I've had the best luck with one tassled file fish in a 300g reef

+1 on the peppermint shrimp wife's nano had about 8 or 9 added a single shrimp two days later not a single one and a couple of them where fairly large.

Aiptasia X is interesting. While it's always included in my arsenal, I'm not always successful with its use. Applied correctly, you'll actually see the aiptasia implode. Success! If not applied correctly, you've just aided in increasing the number of troops. Epic fail! :oops::(

I currently use berghia nudibranches in my reef and I've been happy. However, you need to make sure you have enough and they can be expensive. If you go this route, be patient with the results. Nudis are similar to slugs in that they are slow, very slow. ;)

Get white vinegar from the grocery store, and a small insulin needle. And inject some vinegar into the aiptasia. Even if they close, just stick them in the side of the stem and it will kill them in seconds. For small ones, a copperband butterfly works well.

I just found one on a beautiful rock I had. I just through the whole rock out. I was told they will destroy a coral tank????? I'm so sad

If you can remove the rock and only have a few make it retract and super glue over it. Works great for small numbers

My 125 had a moderate infestation that I was battling for over a year, I was doing my best to hold them at bay with Aiptasia X until I had had enough. I finally bought 10 nudis and put them in. It took a couple months and I noticed one day that I couldn't find any aiptasia. The nudis multiplied and I found them in the overflows and sump. I no longer have a Aiptasia problem.
