Thank You to everyone who has donated so far! :D

And for those who haven't, we hope you will consider helping out and please, spread the word... No donation is too small!

Hi guys

I´m not an American and I can´t understand your healthcare system. In Sweden it’s more or less impossible to come in a situation like this family.

However – I donate 20 $ to the fundraising – it´s less than 0,1 % of my cost for the hobby the last 15 years. It’s half the price for my new bubble Coral, it´s half the price for my last fish and so on.

I challenge everyone to do the same - Do not buy the new coral (or fish) this week - help the family to fix the economy instead. 1, 2, 5, 10 $ does not matter – many small streams make up a mighty river

And I will bump this thread every time I´m in at reef2reef. If that annoys you - donate until the goal is reached – and I will stop :)

Sincerely Lasse

Well said sir, my hat off to you. The family face a terrible situation. Albert had health care insurance but it ran out or they used it all up and his care all but stopped. Who will be next? You have health care insurance so you expect to be OK come the time. I am in the UK and we have a free national health service (although this government seems hell bent on privatising it via the back door). A small donation will make a big difference to the family and as they say every little helps. I can't believe after all this man has done for the hobby and in such a massive affluent country the target has not been met. The family have been left with such a financial burden. RIP Albert.

A few more donations have trickled in over the past week - Thank You to those of you who have donated and/or shared the link! ;Happy

The campaign (in it's 5th month now) has only raised $4,675 of it's $20,000 goal (not quite 25%). For those who have not yet donated, please consider doing so - no amount is too small! And please keep sharing the link to help spread the word... :)

Just a thought but based on my knowledge the family cannot be held responsible for his medical expenses. They would have to sign something ahead of time saying they would be responsible. That being said the hospital and or bill collectors will try and get the family to pay. That's their job. Someone should let the family know they need to reach out to an attorney and or financial specialist.

I honestly don't know their personal situation, but having recently lost my father, I do know that the amount raised so far is not enough to cover even a small bare bones funeral. My father suffered a fall at the end of August last year that was devastating and ultimately led to his death. He was a veteran and had decent health insurance, but certain things required by the doctors were not covered and had to be paid out-of pocket - upfront (upwards of $30,o00) for him to receive proper care. So while I do understand that once someone dies, the family may not be required to pay balances, they can still be left financially devastated.

Well said and very true. I just wanted to point it out because I have seen to many families continue to pay bills they aren't required too. This leads them to an even worse financial position. I was in no way suggesting not to help support this family. I was merely trying to offer financial guidance as another form of support.
