Hello everyone I i’m having a problem with a certain type of algae that I cannot identify. I believe I got it through a coral that I ordered because my levels of phosphate and nitrate are fine. Please let me know how I can combat this Algae here are some photos.

Turn off the blue and use white if you want identification.

Also, I don’t know what fine parameters are. So help us out and post your parameters.

In perusing your threads, I see you have numerous tanks. Would you better discribe the biofiltration & CUC in the tank.

This rock looks to have a green macro algae, black Cyanobacteria, maroon Cyanobacteria and some coralline algae along with a several zoa colonies.

On other pictures, I see some diatoms on substrate. Again, I ask what clean up crew is in this tank.

Nitrates are at 7ppm and phosphates I can’t check rn but they are low like around the .1 mark or lower I don’t remember off the top of my head

How long from purchase of suspect coral frag to these pictures?

It’s difficult for me to understand why that green seaweed is not being consumed by herbivores, unless it is a type of Bryopsis, which happens when phosphates & nitrates bottom out.

No herbivores are in the tank I do have a passer but does not do a dent. I have an urchin which does but it grows back within a week. The corals I got I have had for about 3 months now. I do have a dussemeri tang but I am scared to add it due to me running an ich management tank

The algae that is on the sand seems to be uvula, which tangs and other herbivores eat sometimes. I have it too but I have not found a way to get rid of it. In the last 2 pics you sent seem to be GHA, which I would get either a sea hare, which consumes the algae like crazy but once the algae is gone you would need to either supplement feed it or return it. You also can get an army of snails and hermits and have them tackle the algae. Also, what is that coral in the second picture that is red and green? It is beautiful.

Is that the one with the green centre. If it is then it’s a dragon soul favia. The others are mushrooms which I have no clue of the name

In my 25 year mature tank, I saw ich 20 years ago after a power failure. Symptoms went away and I never looked back.

Cause I have heard that acantharus tangs are succeptible to ich and I have awful luck with ich. No matter what my fish die and it’s not velvet because the fish live with it for like 2 months. I had a heater failure before too. Caused velvet and everything died in the tank apart from a marine betta

Without knowing more history, I suggest you get @Jay Hemdal involved with your tank diagnoses for disease.

I am a seaweed guy. I say you need urchins.

Oh no now at this time it is ich if the tank had velvet it would be gone by now I did qt and keep the tank empty for the time. I do know there is ich it’s just how do I add the tang cause I don’t want it to die

Yes I know but you asked about adding a tang ich was diagnosed 2 months ago and the fish were in the tank for 2 months

The answer to most algae issues is urchins. I took over a tank a while back that was floor-to-ceiling bubble algae. I brushed as much off as possible and netted/vac’d it out, and threw in a few pink urchins. Within two weeks, the only Valonia left in the tank was in the crevices that the urchins couldn’t get to. At that point, a wire cleaner and toothbrush took care of what was left.

What urchins should I get half of the time the urchins are on the glass they are both pincushion urchins and do they eat this type of algea
