Guys
I know afr takes 24 hours to show up but is that just at the beginning or it applies to any time ?

I’ll explain , if my alk is 8.6 with 70ml dosage ( 24 doses) and I turn it off will it take 24 hours to reduce or it’ll reduce straight away?

Depends on how much corals and kind of corals you have. Soft corals will not consume alk but LPS and SPS will.
Also, you need to know how much alk and cal depletes in your tank daily to come up with the right dosage. That will answer a lot of your questions.

It will take about 24 hours to show a noticeable depreciation. It may or may not be "exactly" 24 hours though sir, it really depends on how fast your corals are using it.

My usage is 1.4dkh per day

It takes longer at first (variable, but perhaps more than a day) when there are fewer suitable bacteria to convert formate into bicarbonate. It goes faster as those rise, and likely takes only hours with regular dosing.

My tank using AFR always shows the highest alk during the bright photoperiod and the lowest before lights come on. There’s a reason for this, but I forgot what TM said lol

When do you dose it?

If you’d have saw my EMERGENCY thread it would explain what I’m doing

Basically I’ve got toxins in my water and peed off all my corals so I don’t want the normal disease because if they stop consuming it’ll rocket so I was thinking half the dose until I know what the outcome will be

Can’t say I’m a fan off your method but each to their own
Push them limits! Keep your corals guessing! Stability is boring!

I dose it in a few doses from 3am-7am. 170ml daily currently in a 260g system. Photoperiod starts at 7am.

Ok, which then makes sense that it peaks several hours later. :)

So would you keep the afr constant or reduce it to be safe?
I mean will the stonies continue consumption as normal but just the polyps are upset?

His method seems pretty solid given it usually only fluctuates .5 .... really can't ask for more than that.

Really it wouldn’t be good enough for me but then I am a bit of a perfectionist
I don’t get a .1 swing and that’s how I like it

So before anyone else gives you advice on dosing. Let's go to what started all this.
You unplugged a device without unplugging it from the wall. The power cord fell in your tank and went unnoticed for, per your words, 15-20 minutes. At such point, you noticed it and pulled the wire out (not a wise choice unless you unplugged it prior to grabbing it). It was then you noticed the end of the cord appeared melted. It was melted because the electrical current was able to complete the circuit in water. In a nutshell, you were discharging electricity into your tank and shocking the inhabitants. You are honestly lucky that only the tip of the cord melted, it could have been MUCH worse.
