Aloha from Maui everyone,

Just getting started, so far just been researching articles and threads for about a month before I make the big leap and buy a tank.

Very excited to get into saltwater aquariums. Unfortunately I cannot have any reef in my future tank since it's against state law here in Hawaii. So basically my tank is going to be a FOWLR.

Looking at either the JBJ 45 or the Nuvo 40. Havent fully decided yet, still reading reviews and what not.

Anyway, excited to be a part of this forum and community.

Lol, I must say, this is one of the best welcoming threads I've ever seen compared to all the other forums Ive been a member of (even outside of this hobby)

Thanks guys, super stoked to get started.

Welcome,
When I first saw your thread I thought, I hope he knows that it's illegal to import or collect corals in Hawaii. You've done your homework. I'll be interested to watch the progress of your tank. My wife and I are planning to move to Maui some time in the future. We'll be there in August to enjoy the ocean and the beach and the aloha.

That's my understanding. You can collect a certain amount of sand per day but I can't remember if there are restrictions or prohibitions against collecting rock.
