So these lights were a no go with the included legs, so I had to figure out something else. This is on a 48 photon v2 over a waterbox 135. I ordered the 80/20 2 in wide by 1 I'm deep from grainger (shorter lead time and no shipping with pick up in store.)

I could post a parts list if anyone wants..but know that it seems to be super sturdy and has no say or anything out over the middle of the tank.

I think that the total cost was around $160 FB_IMG_1508894224494.jpg FB_IMG_1508894224494.jpg IMG_20171016_155536.jpg IMG_20171016_162019.jpg IMG_20171016_155533.jpg IMG_20171016_205421.jpg IMG_20171016_155550.jpg IMG_20171016_155530.jpg IMG_20171016_162015.jpg

Any chance you can send me the parts list? I think I got it together. Did you need to use the dual channel version for strength? I did some calculations and it looks like the single channel would work just as well.

sorry been working today...I am sure the single would have been fine- the key is the little inside corner things. I didn't include them on my first one for the 16" light and there was a little flex. I'm going to order a few to play around with.

All Grainger part numbers:
2 ea Item: #29NZ66 aluminum extrusion
2 ea (a few extra) #2UWP8 T-nuts
1 ea 2RCR8 end caps (had to spray paint these to cover writing, as well as the cut ends of the aluminum)
4 ea 5JRU8 corner brackets 2 each piece of aluminum for back piece- screwed into stand
4 ea 29PA05 inside corner pieces
4ea 29PA16 joining plate (1 ea side for extra strength at 90 degree)

I ordered a few more pieces and get a little discount from Grainger through my company, but I believe this ended up around $145 plus tax delivered to store in about 2 days. I cut with my chopsaw (I need to replace the blade for wood anyway and these are quick cuts - USE SAFETY GLASSES!). Total assembly time was under a half hour with measuring cuts and leveling and such. The T- nuts go on the hanging mount nuts a twist or two and then I slid those into the channel to hold the light...

For the 16 in light I used the 1010 extrusion and used the hanging wire- the middle piece meant to attach to cable in the ceiling folded sideways and laid in the channel nicely.

Hope this helps! LMK if you need any more info or pics

Hey Everyone,

Another update. You can buy these custom cut to length here:

https://f-l-8020-store.myshopify.com/

I priced out a mounting system for the Photon 16/24 V2 at $65 shipped, or $120 for a Photon 32/48/50V2 mounting system.

All you need to do is assemble it, the parts come precut. Then just screw it into the back of your tank stand, slide the light in, and presto!

I will be posting a more thorough guide with parts numbers, my saved cart, tips on hiding the power cord, and more. There will be a full DIY video guide.

Thank you very much for sharing this with us Kingzing, it is a fantastic idea and I think that a lot of people will find this to be extremely helpful!

Awesome!!! Glad I could help. Do you by any chance have a part number or a way to buy any extras of the t nuts that come installed on these lights for the mounting kits?

@saltyfilmfolks Thanks!

Yes sir:

3382 T-Nut slide-in 1/4" thread 3 0.21 0.63

That's the T-Nut only- not the screw. The T nut and screw combo is 3321 for the wide flange bolt head, or 3393 for the smaller flange bolt head, which is used in the corner pieces.

Sorry..I typed my request wrong...I know all of the t slot stuff. I actually meant the t bolt that comes with the photon from you guys The silver piece in my second to last pic)...the one that slides in the track and you thread the hanging kit onto. I am looking for a few extra to experiment with. I haven't been to Ace yet, but I struck out at Lowes looking for something to slide in there.

You and me both- I get them directly from the factory and I am seeing if I can't get them made a little bit longer.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. Looking at this exact setup ( water box 135.4 & photon 48 v2) I was hoping there were some mounting arms out there.
How do you like that light for the 135, @kingzing?

I just got a used Photon 48 v1 and I was interested in building something like this. I wanted to try to only have one centered bracket coming up from behind the tank that I could attached the light to. Do you all think a single 80 / 20 2” x 1” arm would be able to hold up the weight of the V1?

You would certainly need at least 2 arms, if not 3. Also- keep in mind the screw threads on the V1 are larger. You can remove the bolts from the case however, and use the ones that come with the T track instead to secure the light.

I started pricing out the parts from the site that cuts them for you (https://f-l-8020-store.myshopify.com/).

8x - 3321 - $4.00
- 2 used on each 4107 (piece used where top bar meets back bar, 8 total)
24x - 3393 - $9.60
- 2 used on each corner bracket (8 total)
- 4 used on each inside corner bracket (16 total)

4x - 4113 - $16.20 (used on back of stand to secure vertical bar)
4x - 4132-Black - $18.88 (used where vertical bar meets horizontal bar, 2 on each assembly.)
4x - 4107-Black - $16.60 (used where vertical bar meets horizontal bar, 2 on each assembly.)
2x - 2025-Plain - $3.20 (nice finish on front of horizontal bar)

Right now I am at $68.48, but that does not yet include the T-slot extrusion.

How do I calculate the measurements I need for the T-slot based on below?

Typically, how far out from the back does the bar need to come to center your light? Also, how much is needed below the bracket on the back side of the tank?

My stand height is 34 inches, my tank height is 21 inches, and the tank width is 20 inches.

You need 4 more 3393, bringing the total to 28 of those (forgot you need them to mount the light to the top post)
