I have a fairly large alveopora about the size of a tennis ball when closed. Every now and then I notice a poly end floating around the tank. The thing has hundreds of polyps so I’m not worried or anything. Just curious if anyone else’s does this. I also am assuming that the fragments can’t grow new corals. Photo of colony attached

I'm not sure that the polyps can grow after detatching.

Regardless though, I would keep an eye on any crabs, shrimp, or hermits you may have. I used to have peppermint shrimp that would cut arms off of anemones. Those are your likely suspects.

All of the above, I've also had a lawnmower or starry blenny chomp on things randomly.

i dont think its from crabs or whatever like those above said. i've seen it happen from many corals that are flowy like that. I think a part just gets ripped from the current or rocks or something. it happens all the time with euphyllias. i pulled a polyp out of my tank last night during a water change from my frogspawn
