Clean cut for the gravity feed drain. Wanted it closer to the wall.

It’s selfish but I’m glad I just found it, I didn’t have to wait like everyone else. It’s going to be great To watch this tank flourish. I visit Utah once a month on business. I would love to see it one day.
Happy to show you the tank. Reach out next time you are in town! Always love to talk fish with the fish buddies!! LOL

Skimmer is plumed in, easy to make changes when/if the big one gets shipped. Also built some mounts to attach/support the pipe to the back wall.

Everything is built for hopefully a quick swap out as I secure the larger gear.

Everything is also out of the way so I can build a big sump one day.

This skimmer I had designed with a 150 watt UV built into the intake. Nice to have that available for the fish if needed.

So I ordered new needle wheel impellers from ReeFlo direct so I wouldn’t have this problem. You can see how hard the seal has to work because the wheel seal is not seated straight: (videos didn’t work you can see them on shorts on my YouTube channel if you like)

Set it all up and the new wheels are doing the same thing. Gave it a go with my fingers crossed and freak: (videos didn’t work you can see them on shorts on my YouTube channel if you like)

Well that was a cool exercise! Reminds me the value of internal skimmers if you can work that out!!

I needed to add a union on the return side of the skimmer anyway so this gave me a good chance to dry out the pit, cut the foam base to fit and add the union.

How is the end of the motor shaft rotating without the impeller on after running it with the unbalanced impeller installed? No wobbles?

Shaft spins straight, tried it on two pumps, both shafts are straight but it seams like the threaded seal side of the impeller isn’t straight… like the threads and the seal are not square… if that makes sense…

Made a ReeFlo Orca pump leak test station because it’s way easier to make sure they don’t leak here rather than in the skimmer pit live!!

Both pumps now leak free but they both overheated and shut off after a few hours of pumping. I’ll attribute that to not feeding it air in the leak test and them overheating.

I’ll fire it up live today on the skimmer in the pit and see how we go!!

Man, every time I get on and open this journey of yours, having the hope in me that Bill bought some integrity and Costco and loyalty at Walmart, just to find both must be fresh out of those…. Frustrating!!!
