Anemone Placement

Hello all

Just got home with a new anemone and am having a problem getting it placed. The LFS said to just hold him on the rock work and it should grab on but it keeps trying to leave even when its propped up against rock work and all pumps are off. It seems to want to be on the sand bed and is moving around there. Is this ok? I know they will find where they are most happy but is it ok for it to be on the sand bed until it finds its home???

Just let it be, your stressing it even more by moving it .
Is your tank old enough ? 6 months or older

What kind of anemone?

Some species live in sand bed.

I have 2 bubble tips, neither are where I put them. One went to the top of the rock structure in a fairly calm area and the other chose a small rock on the sandbed in a high flow area.

Let it find a spot it likes.

I feel your pain. My RBTA took over a month to settle down. I never physically moved him but I have used direct flow and a towel to get him to move from a spot in the back of the tank. Make sure your powerheads have some sort of protection on them at least until the nem settles down. They have a mind of there own and will settle down eventually. For example my large bta was happy in the spot I wanted him in for months. Then all the sudden he moved to a bad spot that was very close to my maxspect all the way at the top of the tank. His stalk was extended almost a foot. It looked crazy. I thought it was the light so I changed my T5 bulbs to no effect. Finnaly after a month of head scratching I realized that when I’m;ast cleaned my other maxspect gyre on the opposite side of the tank I put it together wrong and I inadvertently greatly reduced my flow. I fixed this and in 2 days he moved back to his original position and is spread out beautifully again. I’ll take a video of him tomorrow.

What kind if anemone is it? And leave it alone, you will stress is out messing with it. Like stated above, some nems live in the sand while others thrive on rock.

Good advice on the nem, leave it be, it will find it's happy place.

Nems will find their place. Can't really force them to be where you want, which is why they can be tough in a reef as they make sting your coral as they move. I have a Rainbow RTBA and I was lucky. I put him in a spot I thought he might like and he's only moved a couple inches over the last month. Others aren't as lucky. Depends on the type. What is it?

Agree with the advice above. Turn off your pumps, place him on some rockwork and he'll latch on. Might take a bit. If your pumps are adjustable, turn them to the lowest setting to keep some movement
And then turn them back up once he latches on

Long Tentacle and often Sebae like the sand. BTA and H. Magnifica tends to like it up in the rockwork.

Yup, if hes attached there just let him be :) he'll move around on his own so trying to put him where you want him is a waste lol

Looks like an LTA, possibly a Sebae. I would expect it to look for the sand. It is not a BTA.

Think it's a crispa, sand dwellar, not LTA for sure or BTA.
Get better pics of column underside of disc and maybe good close of tentacles if you can

Nice good pics of a healthy crispa happily setting foot, and looks very purple, and you may have scored a nice one.
Post pics once settles and stretched out.

Leave it alone and let settle at least a week before trying to feed or anything.

Going that hard at sand on it's own is a good sign

yeah, crispa is one of 3 types of sebae, they like a lot of light
