Second question, so a new thread.

Our 30 gallon tank has two nemes in it- a red bubbletip that we acquired with the 60 gallon tank and a white sebae from the LFS. Original intent was to have one neme per tank, but for some reason neither one ever was happy in the 60.

Anyway, the white sebae has gotten distinctly oval and even sort of figure-eight in shape- is "he" trying to split and reproduce?

It is possible but pictures are always nice.

Asexual reproduction is not very common with Sebae, it will be very interesting to see if the anemone eventually does clone.

Is the Sebae a crispa or malu?.. Either way they dont split. It does sound like you have another problem because they are not white. It is very common for these anemones to come in bleached.

A pic would help to make sure...

Some of it may also be optical illusion caused by "his" choice of location. He decided to wedge under a flat rock overhang and go into the sand, so he's pretty much on his side all the time.

Now they are often bleached before sale? Huh, that would account for his color change since we bought him.

Bleaching is when a anemone or coral expel their Zooxanthellae making them look white.. This happens during shipping because they are very sensitive and dont ship well.. . They can recover if they are attached and sticky. They will need to be fed though or they will slowly shrink and die because they will consume themselves.

The pic in my avatar is a Sebae (H. crispa) and is the correct color.
