Sorry for the cryptic headline....
I currently have a 40 gallon breeder that has been an long standing SPS home and I would like to try a pair of clownfish.
My question has to do with the substrate needed for the anemone to attach.
The 40 gallon breeder is a bare bottom tank....no sand bed.
The tank was originally started with bare rock, cycled and coralline populated.
Any help, suggestions, recommendations, thoughts are appreciated.

Hello Jon,

For an carpet nem, I would think you'll need sand to help it plant in, and feel comfortable.

An BTA would head to your scape and plant it's foot into an rock's hole. No sand needed for an bta.

Hoping others will chime in too.

Really depends on what type of anemone you want to keep. Start with what you like and let us know what you chose. BTA will quickly over take your tank. Unless you plan to sell any split clones.
