Hi, just introducing myself. I’m very interested in getting into the hobby, but I’m taking my time and just learning as much as possible right now. Still trying to figure out what I’d like to do for my first tank and what requirements it will have etc. I’d like to wrap my head around things such as parameters, micro dosing, failsafes etc. I’m currently leaning towards 70 gallon tank, but it’s all still a lot to absorb.

Bigger the better, easier to maintain too. Welcome :)

Anything between 30-90 can be manageable for a first tank. Really depends on your budget constraints. I will say, don't plan out a million options and add-ons. Get some live sand, live rock, some saltwater and a good light. All in one, backpack filter or a sump are all good first options. Leave room to grow and add later. Save and buy what you want instead of trying to trim corners and rebuy moving up. A couple fish, shrimp, clean up crew, and basic corals to roll with and spend your first year keeping things alive. Its all good and just don't panic or chase parameter numbers . If it's close, leave it for a while and see what nature does. Welcome aboard.

If you love the hobby, and you will, if you start to small, then it will just cost you more money when a 30 gallon just won't cut it anymore. A 75 gallon reef ready can be found every where, fairly inexpensive and should keep you happy for a long time. If cost is of no real concern, a 4 foot 120 will make you very happy also. 48x24x24 if I remember correctly. That extra 6 inches of depth really makes a huge difference and really not much more work then a 75 or 90. JMO....
