Hey all. Have a male lyertail anthias. He is beautiful!!! Currently have 4 females for him in my 125. I was just seeing if this is a good number?? I know the more females he has the happier but I dont want a whole tank of them and not be able to add other fish because of that. Some sites say odd number of females, some say even number of females for the male. Just curious what everyone else out there has, this is my first time keeping anthias! But they really are very pretty, I see why they are popular now! This is my male (Nickel) and one of the females.

As long as you have at least two females he'll be a happy camper. I only have 3 anthias in my tank (two are lyretails, the other a marcia's) and they do just fine. I actually have more damsels and chromis than anthias so you should be fine (if I can do ~50 fish in my 160-gallon, you can have more than a few anthias...) :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

They can perform a lot of 'antics', so I recommend a lid if you don't have one.
Yeah I dont have a lid. Been searching for one though! Hard to find a six foot one that doesnt cost an arm and leg lol

Yeah, still don't have a lid on mine either. I did lose two anthias over a period of 12 months to misadventure...

About a 18 months ago I got 3 females and one male lyretail. They were fine for a year. The two larger females killed the smallest one off out of the blue. By the time I could pull her out to put her into another system it was too late. It was pretty brutal to watch. Now it seems the alpha female is transitioning. No aggression but I've always heard it doesn't matter how many you start with over time you'll end up with just one left.

A little under 6 months but many we’re also small and large colonies
Ah okay! My tank just has a lot of frags all over. I want my reef to look stunning with the corals and complement my fish!

I had 2M11F Lyretail Anthias for about 2 years till velvet took them all away.

I restocked with 1M2F of different Anthias, put them through QT (HTTM and PraziPro). The followings came through QT and stayed with me till now (~9 months). No lost of fishes after QT.

1M1F Dispar Anthia (Pseudanthias dispar)
1M1F Bismaculatus Anthia (Pseudanthias bimaculatus)
1M1F Evansi Anthia (Pseudanthias evansi)
1F Hutomo Anthia (Pseudanthias hutomoi)
1M2F Lyretail Anthia (Pseudanthias squamipinnis)

No picking amongst each other, but lately the Bismac M is at odd with my China Wrasse in particular, but the wrasse can manage that quite easily.

i heard that lyretail anthias don't get along and eventually kill each other until you are left with 2 or 1.

very similar to green chromis.
