Got a lionfish a month or so ago. He’s been eating the last couple of weeks in the display tank. The past couple of days he hasn’t eaten anything. I have him on a live only diet. And he’s ignored everything I’ve tossed in there the last 2 going on 3 days.

How often do you feed him? Lionfish can go days without requiring feedings (and it’s often recommended to have a gap of a day or two between feedings, especially on larger specimens).

This is my juvenile fu Manchu and in order to prevent overfeeding, I feed him every 2-3 days.

I agree with @i cant think . Predatory fish don't need to eat every day. Juveniles need every 2-3 days, and adults can go a week. If it doesn't eat for over a week, then you may want to worry.

I’ve been feeding him every day just one or 2 small minnows.

No, minnows are high in thiaminase . Feed mollies and guppies. Thiaminase will cause a vitamin B deficiency and death.

minnows are a bad food option as slocke has said - also what species of lion are we talking about?

If it’s a Volitans or larger species you may find the minnows are now too small for him anyway and possibly a waste of energy to hunt due to the lack of nutrients they’ll give.

IME through working in the trade, these guys size up on prey quite quickly for their size. Definitely try out something larger, whether river shrimp (this is what I usually start lions on due to the variability in size we can source over here) or mollies/guppies.

Yes, all minnows are high in Thiaminase.

I suggest trying to get it on frozen, more variety. Better food too. As mentioned, they dont eat daily
