I metal detect regularly, mostly for Civil War relics and coins. I have found many bullets, a few buttons, and bits and pieces of other uniform acoutrements.

I have panned for gold in Jamestown, CA, which was one of the first gold mining towns in America during the rush.

I have also dabbled in gem mining, fossil hunting, and other adventures.

Anyone else share this passion?

I practically live on the Chickamauga Battlefield and I would love to find some stuff. It's illegal in the park, but the surrounding areas have items to be found. I have also been panning for gold in Dehlonega, Ga.

there is some awesome history to be had about the mint that once was in Dahlonega

i have been panning a few places in colorado also been out with a dredge in some of the rivers here in colorado with my uncle as a kid

i am wanting to get into metal detecting but some physical issues keep me from doing anything that is really fun

that show cash and treasures on the travel channel is awesome (doesnt hurt that the host is easy on the eyes either) gives out lots of good places to hunt precious stones and relics and what not

I have been a gold prospector since birth.....LOL well almost. I actually just decided to get out of the hobby this year and am selling my minelab on ebay this week. I almost got bit by my first rattler last year down around the Redding gold fields.

Glad to see there are others. If any of you guys are ever in the PA, WV, MD, DC area, give me a shout!

A "decent" metal detector is anywhere from $500-$1000 new. You can get a Bounty Hunter that works just fine for $150-$200. If you are new to the hobby, I would suggest getting used to a more inexpensive machine.
