I finally finished my 8' fireplace. The mantle is 8 pieces of 2X10' which I hollowed out to look like one big piece of lumber.

The 14 gauge steel is on plywood, I ground those swirls in it and the entire thing is on wheels so it can be moved away from the wall in case I need to hide from my wife.

I do enjoy woodworking, but i'm not very good at it. Apparently, my brother got all of those genes. Just an incredible craftsman. He concentrates on custom stairs, handrails, and cabinets for a living, but does furniture and other pieces on the side. Here's a Roubo bench he did a few years ago. They have become so popular with other woodworkers that he's always working on one on the side to sell.

Looks like you need to spend some quality time with your brother and maybe some of his talents will rub off on you! But you really don't have to be good at it as long as you're getting dusty!

Here's a couple more pics of the Roubo bench. He makes them out of many types of wood, but this one is still my favorite: maple & walnut.

Here’s a bunch of projects I have done in the past. Unfortunately, due to breathing problems I’m having to hang up my woodworker hat.
I also built a Roubo bench.

I started making some things out of pallets...hardest thing is breaking them down while salvaging the wood. Never really worked with wood before, but have really enjoyed it!

Dressed up the bar in there too.

Very nice work. I've made quite a few things out of pallet wood. You certainly can't beat the price!!!
