Anyone enjoy woodworking?

I built the house back in 1979 and what I learned from this, other than not to do it again, was I am an extremely good rough-in carpenter but not the greatest finish carpenter.
Most of what I build these days is utilitarian like the table in my fish room.

I am definitely not same league as the rest of you guys. Man, you folks do some amazing work!

Each one of the doors weighs 250 lbs all the panels move indepently, meaning that there is 8 panels per door. One set for the inside and one set for the outside so that with the temperature change each panel move indepently and there will be no cracking.
This one is white oak

I will be building a new house next Summer and the thing I am most excited about is making the front door (and fish room in the basement to support a larger DT ;)). This is amazing work and got me even more excited for the new house now!

Check with the builder, you might have to install a custom door after you get the GC. Doors without a rating are not allowed down here. Getting a rating is quite pricey;)

I just finished a picture frame for a piece my S/O is working on. I cut some birdseye maple scrap and used it as an inlay for the cherry frame. The inner frame is poplar and will be covered with linen.

Another hobby that my wife and I have is bottle hunting. We find sites and dig old bottles. Being bored again (still out of work with my foot injury) I decided to make something to display a few (we have a lot). I used some locally sourced cedar, the mill is about 10 minutes from my house, for the frame and some 1/4” ply I found laying around the house for the background.

I've been working on the below music/jewelry box for my daughter for her birthday in April. I finished up the inlay and edge radius treatment yesterday. I just need to cut the top off and do the interior work. Interior is fairly involved on this one as it will have an Orpheus 50 note 3 song movement. I'll line it with leather as well and also may try to put in an integrated tray that swings up when the top opens. I also need to add stop hinges and a lockset.

At the moment mine is more utilitarian then for fun. But redoing the cedar shingles on my house and redoing the original 100+ old windows.

This sounds like me right now... Just bought a old house last year. Trim is rotted in places and I am replacing it all, redoing both bathrooms. Making cabinet doors.

I have to say i am impressed with the skills of some people in this thread. Gives me ideas, I just do not need my better half seeing this thread.

The spring time in Michigan is time to walk the woods looking for Morels and always on the lookout for old garbage dumps and....Maple Burls!
