Anyone have freshwater tanks?

I have a Sera Biotop 60L cube that I set up for my wife in her old apartment. We went through a few gouramis and tetras. It looked really nice for a couple of years with plants growing.

When the PC bulb blew out I was having a hard time sourcing a replacement so I went with a rapid led retrofit for cube tanks. Of course it was a reef spectrum and I didn't buy the dimmer option. It is super bright. I created some caves for what tetras I had left and one is still around.

I'm planning to convert it to a terrarium with a waterfall this winter.

That sounds really cool can you post a picture when it's done?

I had 2 reef tanks . A 80 gallon rimless and a 90 gallon but decided to change my 90 to a Malawi cichlid tank so I could free up some time for me in other things ! 2 reef tanks kept me busy even with automating a lot of equipment on my 80.
I have enjoyed the Malawi tank a lot . A ton of movement and a ton of color and much easier ! I done a fishless cycle and dosed ammonia to get up to 3ppm as I was planning on adding 35 fish at once and I did and it worked out great . I only lost 2 fish out of the 35 .

Looks great! Did the decorations cost a fortune? Lol

Bought a Fluval Spec V several years ago to keep a betta that my in-laws bought my son. Since then, two bettas have come and gone, but I kept the tank and decided that I would complicate my life more by starting a nano planted tank. Right now there are only two emerald dwarf rasboras in there (soon to be a few more), but plan on adding some red cherry shrimp. I have a single T5 over it and inject CO2, but not adding more than just a few ADA iron tabs every 5 months. Bi-weekly water changes when I remember and that's it. Once a month a prune the plants (forget what it's called), brilliant green/red and yellow.

What plants are those?

I have several FW tanks and several SW tanks. The SW tank in my build thread has been accused of looking like a FW tank. :)

I have three freshwater tanks.
One holds a betta splendens, a fancy platinum guy. AC6581D8-FE2E-402E-B01E-F22102621B27.jpeg B61D4709-CCFB-483C-B5F9-78D6F339DBB6.jpeg
This is his setup. It’s a 15 column. He has a waterfall feature on the back of the branch.

then I have a 29, half full housing a pair of betta pallifina. It’s also partially filled, lots of stacked slate and a canister filter bringing the water up to “rain” down the driftwood and slate. 312C0B02-F689-4E24-B658-441887BEB6D8.jpeg 2AEE17FE-D97D-4F32-9488-9743DA3BC94D.jpeg D68F93FC-AAE6-4EEB-985B-CBC814983A32.jpeg

the. I have another 29 housing a single male pallifina. He got the short end of the stick when the dominant male passed away, as you can see. So he’s fattening up and healing before leaving to go be in a 75 planted community. The water is only down because I wanted to make sure he could reach the surface, I have been raising it slowly every few days. He’s bolder now and is healing nicely. 3FBB3B00-3F7D-48AD-9FBC-994E295F67D9.jpeg

That betta is beautiful and I am also a zelda fan! :)

Thanks! I saved a ton of money on the cichlid decorations actually. Lol! I found the 3’ by 2’ cypress root at a flea market in Pickens South Carolina for only $20! Root barley fit in my 90 gal.If I bought at LFS it would have been 10x that! The Pennsylvania large river rock in tank was leftover from a landscape project I completed a while back . Very nice colors in that rock!
My decorations in reef tank was a different story! Lol! I don’t want to add up the cost in that tank setup !

They look beautiful! Is that black sand?
Thanks! Yes.....I always like the look of black sand in freshwater tanks (when I am not using nutrient rich substrates)....makes the plants pop more.

Thank you! I’ve encorporated something from the franchise into each of the tanks, sans the palli who’s recouperating.
I have Ganondorf (Wind Waker, of course) on my lights on the reef. Minish Vaati is on the wood in the 29 and the Triforce is in the 15!

My 7 year old piranha that started as size of quarter now size of small dinner plate. We originally got 4 but he ate all his brothers/ sisters

I have a 55 gallon tank in my living room that’s actually my “main” tank. Used to be planted, but found a planted tank at that size to be more work than the reef. Now it’s an mbuna cichlid tank. 28E53BFD-3825-4AD1-A6CD-14B820CB6C9F.jpeg

I just ordered a 5 gallon all in one tank that I’m gonna try planted again on a smaller scale.

Nice and I sometimes it's better not to and just enjoy the hobby lol

I'd does look really nice does that effect cleaning it at all? I use the vacuum on my gravel

Dwarf grass, petite anubius and I forget the others? I’ll have to look them up.
I've considered planting grass on mine as well but I'm not sure how to go about cleaning the substrate, if its needed, or how to maintain it in general
