Sorry I hi jacked the Apex backup thread @SuncrestReef I didn’t realize how extensive my questions were getting. Another Apex networking question I have is why does entering the IP address listed in the Apex network summary get you to the Apex local and not Fusion? Does that IP address belong to the Apex or the router or is it shared?

That IP address is a local IP address assigned to your Apex device by your router.

When you log on to fusion, you're actually logging on to a server somewhere in the cloud. (actually it's on the ground, but that's a different question.) Your Apex is connected to the Neptune Fusion server and constantly sending it data. The fusion server then stores that data in your account. When you log on to fusion you get a snapshot of the latest data that the Fusion server received from your Apex. Essentially the information goes from your Apex over the internet to a server somewhere and then back to your computer/tablet/phone that you used to log into Apex.

When you log into Apex Local the connection goes directly from your device to the Apex controller. You generally have to be at home on the same network to do so and should be able to log on to the local server even if your internet connection is down, as long as your router and local network is up.

@SuncrestReef and @Sleepydoc now I can get Apex Fusion but can't get Apex Local. When I enter the IP address that usually works and according to the Network Setup Summary in Fusion it hasn't changed, Chrome browser tells me: to check the proxy and firewall. Those are two words that are total Greek to me. From what I assumed I can get Apex Local sometimes when I can't get Fusion but when I can get Fusion, I should always be able to get Apex Local.

Apex Local should always be reachable from a computer or other device on the same local network.
Make sure you use http: and not https:, as the Apex doesn't support encryption.
If the numerical IP address isn't working, you can try entering hostname.local, where hostname is the name of your apex from the network page. If you never renamed your system, default is apex.local.
Proxy won't be an issue in most home networks. Firewall could be, if you have aggressive anti-virus software.
Browsers can sometimes be temperamental about this as well. Try a different browser.
Or you can disable Apex DHCP and assign the Apex a static IP address which never changes, in the router software.

@rkpetersen yes DHCP has been disabled on my Apex for several months now and it’s a big help. My base unit 12v dc power and router are both on a battery back up which helps a lot too with Apex networking. Thanks for the tip about using http: and not https: I didn’t know that.

You can also get to Apex local by directly entering in the IP Address your apex is on.

Use http://apex.local

If you changed the default hostname under the Network settings, then use that name instead. For example, mine is:
http://SuncrestApex.local
@SuncrestReef I did change my hostname some time ago but I try to login with it beginning with http:// and it doesn't work. I changed my hostname back to "Apex" again so I entered http://apex.local and it says the server has timed-out. I changed the hostname in Apex Local not Fusion but I didn't reboot or logout after changing the hostname. Could this have caused a problem?

@DarthSimon I have done so many times in the past and I have DHCP disabled so the IP is static and I have been entering the same IP and it doesn't work.

For the record, in case anyone reads this thread in the future, you need to reboot the Apex after changing the hostname for it to take effect.
