Grats on the easy fix for a perplexing issue. Its nice when parts are so modular any 6 year old can replace em. Gives us LED/Electronics/soldering/wiring inept people a chance to be cool still..:):nerd::clap2:

I still think anything used around saltwater and intended for saltwater use should be protected at a minimum wet location rated. Some day someone is going to get seriouly hurt or something seriously damaged. I mean these are intended for use over a saltwater tank, no matter how hard you try water is going to get on these things.

There are electrical codes and one day someones house is going to burn down due to something like this and insurance wont cover it because the home owner installed it in a location it wasnt rated for.

I know of two tank fires one was around here and his whole house burnt down. Another the fire was below the tank and the tank busted putting out the fire which saved him which I think I read and saw pictures of on the forums..

I have some Sol Blues as well... very interesting and useful thread! I'm sorry this happened to you, but if it didn't people like myself wouldn't have thought this could be so serious. I personally know what it's like to have an electrical fire and lose your whole house (and VERY lucky that all but our cat survived it.) I have everything protected from salt creep except my Sols (thinking they are far enough from the water). NOT! It still gets up there. Mine are 12" from lenses to water surface. So I now have a new routine....

And thanks for the Dielectric grease suggestion :clap2: which is now on my shopping list!

Dielectric grease can be purchased @ any autoparts store. Permatex is a popular brand that markets this.
