Bringing a 65G tank online which has the foot print of a 40G breeder, 2 inch sand bottom and plenty of rock approx 1lb per gallon. This tank will be used for LPS coral and later, six months some Macro Algae. I have spent sometime playing with macro algae, but the coral is new. I'm interested in knowing what you found worked when it came to rock placement, and the ability to not have any dead zones in the tank.

Should I pile the rock in the middle, or should I leave space behind the rock, or rest the rock up against the back, or rest against the sides. As I said, would be interested in any suggestions on rock placement to maintain a good water chemistry by water flow and no dead zones.

Thanks

Bryn

I'm not a fan of a ton of rock... I run closer to 1/2 - 2/3 lb per gallon. I like having space all around, between the rock and glass. Makes for good flow and also allows easy access to clean the glass etc. Here are three pics of mine to give you an idea of the spacing:

Brilliant, gives me some ideas. Also looking to place my rock on egg crate, and then add sand as I would like the possibility of adding some snails or fish at a later date.
