I’m about to pull the trigger on same tank after a seven year break too! Are you still liking tank and hardware, especially the circulation pump?
Any advice\opinions appreciated
That's awesome news... Welcome back to the hobby! I have loved all of the choices so far. You won't be disappointed!

All of that is so true, but buy once, cry once! Well.... except when you see new cool stuff come out and then it's upgrade time. ;-) A never ending cycle which is half the fun!

Hey there,
I have had constant issues with my tank/sump staying level. I get it stable, then it seems overnight the ato begins to go off, lowering salinity and filling display while emptying out reserve. I have received new plumbing from Aquaforest, but no solution yet. I know others have had issues and was wondering if you had any similar problems. If so, could you let me know?

Yes. The problem is the filter sock. Removed my filter sock 2 days ago during my water change and put my media reactor in that spot. So far so good, I can give you guys an update in a few more days. But I had the same issue and it drove me insane. I have the 435, I realized changing the sock makes a difference. Cleaning it is ok but if it’s not being changed or cleaned every other day for me resulted in this water level issue. VERY annoying and made my ATO bonkers which also affected salinity. Hope this helps

Things are going well on the tank so far. I have added my first inhabitants. Please welcome two frostbite ocellaris clownfish, Joe and Momma... named by my 11 year old daughter. They have been in the tank for about a week now and have been doing great! I need to learn how to take good pictures of moving fish, because currently I suck at it or I would post pictures of them. Everything I take are blurry and do not give true justice to the beauty of these creatures. So cool!

I have added a few things already to the functionality of the tank. I purchased a Neptune Apex Pro and the Adaptive Reef mounting board to organize all of the electronics. I spent the day today doing wire management on the new mounting board and setting up the Apex. It turned out great plus there still is room for anything else I may add down the road. I considered building something to mount all of the electronics, but I was convinced with purchasing from Adaptive Reef from a YouTube interview with the owner and tour of their shop. I'm a sucker for supporting small businesses and the quality of this Canadian based company was quite impressive. I was sold!

I'm considering purchasing a tablet to place directly above the mounting board so I can have access to the Apex Fusion Webpage, but have also looked at making (or purchasing from Adaptive Reef) a toggle box that I could use for feeding, turning off certain things, etc. I'm leaning towards a tablet as it would be cheaper and more functional, but I do like the tactile aspect of a toggle box. Anyone have any experience with either and have opinions?

The only other thing that I have on the way is a custom screen by Top Lids. I knew that I would need a screen as I have had my fair share of jumpers since I began this hobby 8-9 years back, but wanted something that looked great and provided as many options and light penetration as possible. While I haven't received it yet, I can say that communication has been second to none! They sent me a mock up withing a few days of ordering it for approval and addressed all concerns and additions that I requested. I still have a few weeks, but I'm really looking forward for it to come in.
Top lids is solid. I ordered one for a water box and one for an AIO i.marine....they take a while but well worth it

Hey all! I realized that I have not updated my thread in almost a year and a half!!! It has gone through quite a bit over the last year or so, but I am currently happy where it is at. Man... did it take some time and lots of frustration, though!

Let me start where I left off......

I received my first of two.... yes, two..... Top lids tank cover. Nothing was wrong with the first one; however, after I received my first order, I ended up travelling much mor than I anticipated and need an option to install an autofeeder. So after a few months of a full cover, I contacted the GREAT people at Top Lids and had them make another one up for me with a window to accommodate for an Avast Plank Autofeeder. I can say without a doubt, this is THE BEST FEEDER ever. It is more expensive than other options; however, the reliability and ease of use is second to none. Zero regrets!

I ended up adding a few more things since the beginning to help with as much automations as I could with adding a couple of DOS dosers for dosing Aquaforest Competent 1+, 2+ & 3+, an Apex Trident and a MXM module to control my Ecotech XR15.

One of the major issues that I have had with the Aquaforest Oceanguard 275 was the plumbing. I could not dial in the cycling very well. My sump would constantly change it's water level and I would have to adjust the drain valve. Because of this, dialing in my skimmer was an impossibility. After doing more research, this seems to be a big problem with many of the tanks. I ended up swapping out all of the drain side with a 1" bulkhead, piping and spear gate valve. I kept the return and emergency drain as is. This fixed everything immediately and I was able to dial in my sump perfectly without any issues.

Around August of last year (2024), I began having issues with what I thought was green hair algae. I made weekly water changes, limited the amount of food and nutrients, manual removal, stopped dosing, and everything else I could think of. NOTHING was working. Matter of fact, it actually became worse. I added a larger clean up crew, but by this point the GHA was so long that they wouldn't touch it. This lasted for months. It got to the point around early December that I was about to nuke the entire tank and start over. I was stumped and beyond frustrated.

I was talking with a buddy and we figured out the best solution would be to slow down my massive weekly water changes, add a UV light and let it ride before I restart. It took a few months, but it WORKED!!!!!!

A pic of when it was the worst....

And now......

I'm super happy with it now and not embarrassed to have friends over to see it! ;-)

So did you have to change anything else on the drain side? Or is it just a simple swap?
The only thing I changed was everything on the left side main drain line. That included main drain pipe above the bulkhead, the bulkhead, Spear Gate and a couple of 45 degree elbows. Not hard at all and highly recommend!

I just got mine used on Saturday. I have no idea what I'm doing and am in the process of setting everything up. Is it all schedule 80?

Well, I ordered the sch 80 yesterday from BRS. Paid the extra for 2nd day air so I could have everything setup on Saturday...

It's arriving Monday.
I’m having the same water level issue with my OceanGuard 790 that I setup 2 months ago. Currently waiting for Aquaforest to email me back, but I have a feeling I might have to change the plumbing like ya’ll did.

Yeah… I did the same thing and emailed them. They sent me a few things to try, but when that didn’t work I did my own thing.

I have two new inhabitants in the tank. Went to my LFS and picked up a Blue Gudgeon Dartfish (he's hiding in PVC pipe in the picture) and a Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse. They are hanging out in the acclimation box for a few days so I can watch them eat and get use to their other tank mates. It's been a while since I purchased new fish, so this is a nice addition!
