Are pride and hard work dead?

+1 to what flashyfins said.

also, many wholesalers operate with the buy more, save more program, usually grouped in amount categories. So, if you buy 100+ you get a much better price/discount than if you buy 1-10. or even 20-50.

so, the LFS that only has shelf space/money/demand for a few items, ends up paying much more than a larger retailer(amazon, BRS, etc). That trickles down to the consumer paying more and the small retailer making less profit.

This is true, but in general, Amazon does not like purchasing in large quantities and will order the minimum on most items (storage costs money). They would rather order 3 of something, sell down to 1, then order another 3. With hot selling items, they will of course order more, but many products on the site do not have a strong track record and won't be carried for long.

Yeah but a lot of them are just things I think should have been better. Like making the plastic cages a little sturdier and coming out with the dang stand alone controller they've been talking about forever.
I wasn't trying to talk down on the Gyre as I'm actually in the process of switching back and this time I'm actually thinking about adding 2. I'm that guy that always looks for the newer better thing, even when sometimes I find out the old thing was working perfectly. At least for my system and coral health. [emoji3]

What will the "Stand Alone Controller" be Like?

Is there any info about it out or did they just mention something new is in the works?

I'm not 100% but I've read they're making a stand alone controller that gives you 100% control over multiple Gyre's. Syncing them now is nearly impossible imo

Will you be able to control it with your Phone/Computer like you can with Vortechs?

Or will it be a Handheld Controller like the current one that they come with?

I believe so, there's a whole thread on it but they haven't been chiming in much lately. Maybe that means they're close so they're being tight lipped? [emoji6]

Does all this mean I have to start using "real" aquarium soda ash from BRS or can I still just use baking soda. Everything in the aquatic business is a knock off in one way or the other. I'm confused on the upset on Chinese products.
Typed in my Chinese IPad. BTW

^ Seems like 'cross-flow wave making pump' is nothing more than a knock-off of alternative air fan technology adapted to water ... do you think that the fan makers have a claim against these people as well? Because something is adapted does not make it patentable. Good luck to them ... long live the free market.

If I was Maxspect, Tunze or Ecotech I would go a step further and if a qualified Dealer from either Maxspect, Tunze or Ecotech sells the knockoffs they should be dropped as a dealer of their products.
Jeabo can bring their own product on the market but if they do so not a whole lot of ppl would buy them.

That is restraint of trade and is equally reprehensible in a free market system.

For every one 'Maxspect, Tunze or Ecotech' product sold world wide there are +10 alternative products sold ... I think your opinion is delusional.

We made the email and Facebook blast :)

You are maybe correct on your math but that's not the point.
The point is that there was a Patent pending breach and that ain't right.

I can bring up some samples created by our government but that not the point here.

The gyre really was something different then anything preceding it....I think this design really makes all other cone flow pumps obsolete. Why would you want to direct flow to one very small area of the tank when with a single pump, you can create even flow throughout the entire aquarium?

Of course every single company will start making pumps similar to this, if they can....I wish Ecotech would make something similar... Then you get the quality, controllability and the whole dry motor thing.... It will probably carry at least an MP60 price tag though...

Not always, "better" has different meaning to everybody ... there are more cheap Asian made cars sold in the US everyday than Mercedes and BMWs. ;-)

But none of them look like a Mercedes or BMW's

You know another thing that really gets is I always try and buy the best of equipment. I personally run vortech pumps in my tank. I paid the outrageous price on these things because I wanted the best. Thinking I made a great purchase, not knowing the life span is 8 months on the wet side and trash if the dry side breaks. I don't know about you guys but I worked really hard to save up money to purchase them. It's not like I could order another and not even think about it. Also radions you pay $500 for 2ft by 2ft spread, come on. Before you know it paying over $1000 for lights. How are we to keep new comers interested in joining this hobby. It's becoming a hobby for the rich.

And trickle down economics works? One product may sell better but does that make it better for the consumer?
"Better" for the consumer is subjective ... each consumer has their own determination of what is better for them. Nobody has the right to determine what is better for another person and impose their will on them, so long as the product meets design and manufacturing standards. You don't see Mercedes and BMW threatening the the Asian car manufacturers everyday because they adapt German technologies.
