Are there different yellow figi leathers?

My LFS has a yellow Fiji leather, but it’s kind of pale compared to the bright yellow ones online.

Is it a skill issue? Can I color it up at home?

It kind of looks like a tan toadstool with a hint of yellow.

I haven’t seen the true yellow toads since the early 2000s, and those were all being kept under beefy halides.

Thanks for the feedback. The price they want is not worth it for the drab color.

I’d rather buy something prettier like another trachyphyllia for my collection.

My understanding is that they really need the whiter light to color up properly. I got one myself recently and it looks similar to the video posted above. I like the shape and my end goal would be to eventually move it to a setup under white light where I can bring out its yellow color better.

I've bought ones that were that beautiful intense yellow ... only to have it fade to a tanner yellow after a few weeks/months in my tank haha. I run T5's, no LED's, but I heard they look best under MH's

What nutrients needed to be kept in check? Do you have a number guideline?

I fell in love with them when I was diving in Fiji. Dive site was called Mellow Yellow. I have one but it doesn't get the correct lighting to bring out the yellow.

Light color and intensity does seem to play a role in color (which fits well with my bright white plan), but other things such as genetics and water chem may as well.

I have been on “look out” for a year to get one, not available much anymore?…back in the day with low nutrients and MH had a very yellow one.

Edit: if i see a small one, will squeeze it in….haha!

It is really all in the lighting on your tank. With the led lighting today, you really need to turn the blue leds down or nearly off.
I picked up one when they suddenly became available again and experimenting with my led controls, I could make it look very yellow, but then the rest of the corals in tank weren't looking IMO that great.
Somewhere between a 65k and 10k makes them appear that very yellow color.

The only time I saw a yellow Fiji leather stay bright yellow long term was an old display tank at LFS. It was a 650g walk around tank that was absolutely stunning. He ran all halides and I think they were 6500k. Way more white/yellow than people today would ever run
