So I got an diy ats running and phosphates are good anywhere under .2 nitrates I can’t get up and I don’t want to dose. I turned off skimmer and still can’t get nitrates. Cut down hours on ats to 12/12. What’s the shortest amount of hours I can give ats without killing off all the turf algae?

If it’s a very powerful light, maybe 6 hours minimum a day I would say? I keep planted tanks and that’s a pretty short photoperiod, but should still keep plants alive, like the turf algae.
