I am a BIG fan of automation as I think it's a cool component to reefing. That being said I don't always trust automation. It is pretty cool though that you can feed your fish from across the world and watch them eat! Anywho....Let's talk about what you have automated on your reef tank today!

Literally would be a mess if I did not have automation
I’m at work and have a piece of mind knowing my lights will go on at certain intervals, fish will be fed at certain given times and water will be added if needed and more

The only things I currently have automated is my lighting schedule and dosing pumps. In the future I am getting ATOs, Apex/Trident, and auto water changes for each tank.

At least that's the dream haha

just a doser, a cheap auto feeder and a gravity ato. And Aqua-illumination lights.

ATO- once you have one you’ll wonder how you lived without it.
Basic Jaebo doser- doesn’t need to be complicated, just needs to work.
Lights- obviously.
Eheim- for prepared food, usually feed frozen around dinner time.
Inkbird- because you’re straight up gambling without one.
**Apex- I only run the temp and ph probe I don’t rely on it for anything else.

I did have a trident I ultimately decided to sell. They’re a luxury item that require regular attention and after almost a year it wasn’t worth the added cost and time imo.

I've got a mechanical 5$ ATO thats basically just a plastic clip with a water bottle screwed on if that counts.

Id like more but its horrendously priced for some programmable outlets and a few probes. I have a gravity ATO and my lights have a schedule and thats about it at the moment.

I have my ATO, topping off my ATO (usually it works but occasionally I have to restart a siphon), water changes, alk/cal/mag testing and dosing (trident and dos), feeding pellets, turning off the skimmer when the collection container is full, and light schedule are all automated.

I need to automate my trace element and amino dosing, which I have the pumps to do it just haven’t got around to it yet.

The only tasks I have to do regularly is test nitrate and phosphate, refill and mix salt for my AWC, feed frozen food and nori.

The only automation I have is the lights. One is programmed and the others on timers. I lost interest in automation after buying Neptune's auto top off kit and having two consecutive pumps fail within weeks. I don't have a lot of money to be throwing at gear to begin with and the hassle of troubleshooting faulty equipment is more annoying than just doing stuff manually.

Current status: Tankless

My last tank had Lights, Ato and dosing pump.

Although i would love to have a high-level automation for my new tank, there are two things keeping me away from taking the leap
1. Tropical climate with all year round high humidity

2. Lack of distributors for brands like Apex, GHL etc
