Hey everyone!

Just dipping my toe back into things after a few years of getting settled back in Boston!

I had a 5 year reef tank in Florida that I broke down to move to Boston for work in 2017.
2017 Full Tank Shot
65 Gallon FTS from 2017

Wanted to ask everyone about the following "stack" of gear for my upcoming dream tank build.

Specifically looking for feedback about the current state of the art!

Tank

Red Sea Reefer-S 1000

Nutrient Export / Filtration:
  • External protein skimmer
  • Biopellet reactor
  • Carbon / GFO reactors
  • Calcium Reactor
  • Refugium w/ Chaeto
  • Filter Roller
  • UV Filter (50w+)

Lighting
  • T5 Hybrid Dimmable (48" + 36" lengths to cover the 84" tank)
    • 50/50 T5's with
      • ATI Blue Plus
      • ATI True Actinic
  • 5x EcoTech Radion XR15 Pro

Open Questions
I was thinking of running an ozone reactor instead of the Carbon... but given the cost of ozone ($1000) vs. 1 gallon of ROX 0.8 Carbon ($60). Ozone doesn't seem worth it?

Are bio-pellets still recommended?

Is the above lighting still the recommended way for SPS-dominated tanks? (T5+LED)

Timeline
Planning the build, fish room, stocking, gear over the next year or two. I'll be posting a build thread soon®

Welcome and welcome back to the hobby! I use bio without any issues, some may disagree as they can become a "nitrate factory"
Was thinking I’d have them go directly into the recirculating skimmer. Planning to feed heavy and have a high fish load.

Welcome! Glad you joined. In one of my reactors off sump, I do run biopellets with weekly doses alternating between MicroBacter7 and BioDiegest with Bioptim.

Excited you are already considering starting your build thread! I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread under Forum > Member Aquariums and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID). It's never too early

This might help you find people local to you in Boston:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Welcome back to R2R and getting a new system set up, Bob!

As far as lighting, some run LED only, T5 mixed with main LED, T5 mixed with LED supplemental and T5 only. Also, there is a recent surge in MH lighting. Some are running MH only, some MH with T5 and some MH with LED supplemental bars. There are a number of recent threads about MH.

I’m not sure which ozone product you’re looking at for $1,000 but they are options for a lot less. One of them is Poseidon made by Ozotech. Quite a number of members using Ozotech happily on their systems.

Anyways, welcome again! C
