I’m moving my 180 which is currently a wall divider to a new home where it will be up against a wall. I’m looking for a low maintenance background that I can let coralline grow on but that looks nicer that just uncleaned glass against a wall. Are inserts available? Any other ideas?

Nice tank. Some people paint the background (on the outside of the tank). Inserts are also 'ok' - but they can also be a hassle due to low flow, possibly behind them (depending on the type you get - as well as food collecting, etc. Are you planning coral, etc

Thank you! Ah good point about things getting behind it. Coral for now will be fairly limited - I will get more softies but that’s about it. Right now I don’t have time for much maintenance, dosing, etc so I’m trying to keep it all as easy as possible… which is why I don’t want to clean the back wall if I can find a way around it!

I bought my tank used and it had window tint film applied to the outside of the back glass. It appears solid black against the wall and would be easier to peel off than paint should I ever decide to do so.

On my prior tank I had a find who works in the vinyl signing business cut me an exact piece of black vinyl which I put on the outside back of the tank. It looked awesome. Only problem is I’m not sure how easy it would be to remove. Best of luck!!

+1 for painting the outside of back. Takes a minute to put on and if you want it off a few minutes with a razor(assuming here your tank is glass)
