I broke down my RSR 425Xl in the Spring of 2018 for a move to Florida..Threw all the equipment in the closet and thought I would "get out" for a while.. well with that being said :)

Welcome to my RSR 170.. my wife was gracious enough to give me some room in our new house. I went back between the RS Nano Max, RS E-170 and the RSR 170.. I actually ordered and canceled all of them in a 6 hour time frame.. shout out to my new LFS for being patient with me.

Part of the deal with the dictator, I mean my wife, was not spending "too" much time on the tank and getting my 6 and 2.5 year old involved. I did do awc from my basement in NY and was using ESV ( time consuming to mix), but need to simplify this. I am thinking 7 gallon water changes weekly, and just picking it up from the LFS. There is a LFS right next to my kids school, so it can be easy just filling up my 7 gallon buckets every couple of weeks.

Still trying to figure out the best way to mount cords underneath.. I was spoiled with the 425XL cabinet.

Welcome to the adventure... at least I get 38.5% and not nothing :)

Tank:
Red Sea Reefer 170 (mod to put in Spears gate valve)

Lighting:
Kessil A360x ( will just be using timer until wifi dongle comes out)

Return:
Reef Octopus VarioS-2

Flow:
Aqua Illuminations Nero 5

Skimmer:
Reef Octopus Essence S-130 ( i think)

ATO:
Tunze 3155
Advance Acrylic 3x20x20 (5 gallons) (I think I am going to paint it white once it arrives)

I am excited to try the Kessil and the Nero 5, I have had radions and mp's before, and just wanted to try something different.

I am going to start the cycle with Dr. Tim's one and only along with their ammonium chloride

Feedback is always appreciated, as this hobby is all about learning and growing!!

That young man looks like he needs a motorcycle...lol. That is how I ended up out of the larger tanks in to a 40 gallon for years. Had two boys that both raced motocross and that took up lots of weekends and money! All worth it though the little guys grow up to soon and the next thing you know the house is empty and you can build what ever you can maintain.

You are off to a good start. :D

Haha.. you should have seen him when the tank was being filled! He grabbed a cup from the sink and started pouring his own water into the sump.. had a little talk about saltwater and tap water very quickly!

Went ahead and ordered a Stealth RSR250 sump from @Crystal Reef Aquatics

They answered all my questions and help make some changes. Will have to adjust the drain and emergency pipes a little

Probably going to unload the Nero 5 actually this time and get my ecotech going again.
