Good morning Fish medics I have a flame angel that was exposed to either fluke‘s and or a secondary bacterial infection

first, the left eye got cloudy then he was covered in white on the front of his body in the right eye got cloudy.

I know your protocol for Prazi Pro, and started that, but I also started Kanaplex at the same time. He received two doses of the Kanaplex 2 days apart. He is left now with fins that are still frayed, but the white coating on his scales is gone and the first eye to get infected has completely cleared up and there’s still some cloudiness in the second eye which I believe is getting better.
He is eating

isn’t swimming around much and basically stays next to the rock with his cloudy eye still protected

My question is in your experience given the improvement. Would you treat with a third dose of Kanaplex until symptoms were completely gone or is substantial improvement enough to warrant continued observation. I ask because I know from a human point of view amino glycosides can be toxic and there is caution on the label of Kana Plex to be careful with third dosing.

Over kanaplex I recommend Maracyn and would like to see a video of fish using bright white light intensity

Kanaplex does have some toxicity issues, especially when people try to dose it on the food without proper calculations. It isn’t clear to me if the improvement you are seeing is due to the Kanaplex or the Prazipro - what do you think?

That’s a really good question Jay

this is the same fish that was in the tank with the Kole Tang that I spoke to you about the other day. That fish is still being closely watched in my other display tank. I was planning on repeating the prazipro on day nine per the protocol that Vette guy uses at 85% interval dose

I’m trying to get bright white lights to come on to give you and Vetre guy a pic but this Mobius app for my new AI lights is driving me nuts

Around the 40 second, Mark, you’ll see the fish spin around and you can just catch a glimpse of the right eye. He clearly is keeping it towards the back of the tank and it is tough to get a pic of him. I don’t know if you can freeze frame it to get a good luck at it, but it is lightning fast.

Where I live the only available medicine that I can get today in the store is API erythromycin, I know your thoughts about other API products, but do you have any experience with this particular form of erythromycin versus Maracyn?

A couple of things - the "85% dose" should be 100% of the net volume of the tank. It 85% is just that if you don't know the exact volume of water in the tank (due to water line being lower, rock displacement, etc.) it is safer to take 85% of the tank's "rated volume". Also, the interval should be 5 to 8 days.

I can see that something is amiss with its right eye, but I just can't get a good view of it.....

It’s got exophthalmos and is White and I can’t convince him to stay still to show long enough. The left looked like it the other day, but it is now appears to be normal. Will try again to get him to pose for a bright white light pic

Unfortunately lighting is little dark
Dang it those are 100% white on two oversized AI edge unfortunately he’s in the bottom of the rocks. He’s kind of avoiding the bright lights. Thanks for checking it out though.

From what little I could see, it looks like an injury. These take a long time to heal, just watch for worsening which can be a sign of infection.

The trailing fins and the pelvic fins all have damage to them. Some of that looks older, but you want to ensure there isn’t something currently picking on it.

I don’t know what hit my quarantine tank to be honest with you like I had mentioned the other day 30 days of copper treatment times two, did not treat for flukes unfortunately which I have treated this guy for now. ((And kanamycin)

I thought it was aggression also in the quarantine tank and that’s why I wound up splitting up the fish and I put the Kole tang in my big display tank. (And I thought he was the aggressor) this little flame Angels is now in by himself now in a new 70 gallon display tank

thank you and Vette Guy for looking at him
